Default Finally moving to a new PC, Need Help...

Just wondering for if anyone knows where in the registry most FS related stuff is stored. I would hate to have to reinstall everything when I can just export and import the proper registry entries for various add-ons. What I've done in the past when moving to a new PC is transfer my FS hard drive to the new PC under the same drive letter on the new PC. I rename the old FS folder to old while installing a freash copy of FS on the drive in question. I then rename the new FS install and give my original FS folder the proper FS name of the new install. Usually works like a charm with most scenery and freeware aircraft. My AI works like a charm and for the most part FS9 is back up and running. What I know I'll have a problem with is PMDG's birds as well as other payware. My DreamFleet stuff will be fine because I know about that many other payware could be a problem. I know I could go in and just reinstall everything over what's already there but if anyone knows simple registry info that could be exported over would be great...

    Thanks in advance.

New computer will be a Dell Duo Core 2.66 1gig Ram with a Radeon X1650 Pro 512 video card. I believe FS9 with add-ons is going to be outstanding on this new PC.

    Hi Les,

I think that you'll find that there is more to error-free swapping than the Registry entries. In your position I wouldn't try and "circumvent" the security but go straight for direct reinstallations from the Wrappers. If you have the downloaded files, Keys and codes this isn't going to take that long, and doing it this way guarantees that everything is reinstalled properly.

If you still have the "old" FS2004 folders you can transfer over any extra aircraft repaints and freeware scenery afterwards.

Either way, I wish you luck !

I agree with Alastair... Unless you have a program that will create a series of restore disks to use on the new system, don't even think about it. Messing with the registry can leave you with an unbootable system, if you don't know what you're doing.

Well it's time to start the long process of rebuilding everything. I thought long and hard about what's been said here but with so many changes I've made to the core sim since I bought FS9 on release day, I have to try and retain as much as I can. For example the work I did with 9Dragon's AI getting the traffic to stop flying to VHHH and return to VHHX I really don't want to tackle again. Same goes for the AI move to Thailand's new international airport. Any payware that needs to be reinstalled is one thing but all the adjustments made to make FS9 perform and look top notch is too much to mention since the release of the sim back in 2003. I've forgotten allot that I've done custom wise (for example combining river textures from Bird's Eye View with Flight1's Ground Environment textures). So this is diffidently going to be an adventure to say the least. I'll write back as to what worked and what didn't for those that could use this info in the future.
