Default pictures of planes, on the internet

    hi,

An old friend of mine, Bertil 73 years old, has always been fascinated by planes and helicopters.

I have promised to help him find a couple of sites with good and lots of pictures.

the first one that comes to my mind is of course
    http://www.airliners.net the one and only

    I have also found
    http://www.planepictures.net

    quite good but limited.

naturally I will do my own searches with google and such! but if you have a minute to spend, and an URL in your favorites/bookmarks collection leading to similar sites like them above, I would really appreciate if you helped me by posting it here!

    thanks in advance

    //Leif

Those 2 are the best and largest around. There's also http://www.airpics.com but the general quality is a lot lower (good ICAO and IATA code databases though).

I have found www.helispot.com to be a good source for helicopters - both civilian and military.

There is www.milair.net, but it was a long time since I have been there, and recently it seems like the whole site is "under development", and all I can get is the stats for three aircraft, but no photos :-( (Don't use Netscape to view it - it seems to lockup pretty easily)

Since your friend is the same age as myself it's a fair bet he'll be interested in military aircraft. For a stsrt try
    http://members.aol.com/famjustin/Brigandphoto.html
After that, use Google or Yahoo and search using the aircraft name you are interested in.

    Leif,

It has nothing to do with your post, but I have read several scientific papers, relating to my own research, that were written by a "Bertil".

The guy's name is Bertil Akesson and he is a professor at Gottenburg (sp?) University there in Sweden... Could it be the same man???

Anyhow, I have been told that the name is not pronounced the way it is spelled. Is this true, and if so, how IS it pronounced?

    Tom,

    sorry for the delay!

no, it's not the same man. The Bertil Oscarsson I know used to own a shoe store (like Al Bundy...)

hope you don't mind me doing some corrections!
Gothenburg, or as we spell it in Sweden, Göteborg (I hope the ö survives to your brothers)
His surname is probably Åkesson. I know that you don't have åäö on your keyboard though!

pronounce: well, you can pronounce it as you would the english way, and Bertil would know that you're meaning him. no big difference. I have no clue how to write phonetic language unfortunately.

Think of how you pronouce "a" in "fat"
replace the "e" in "Bertil" with the "a" above and you're close to Swedish way of pronouncing!

    hope I helped you!
