    Default Northern Lights over Alaska

I did a search just to see how many have commented or clicked a screen shot of the northern lights effect in FS9, and I guess this is rather passe', but I was impressed. I've been flying FS9 for a few years now and this is the first time it happened to me.

Nice job Aces! They looked very real. I spent 8 years in Alaska and I attest to their accuracy to the real thing most often. Occasionally you'll see more defined curtain effects in Alaska, but most often they are just like the ones in the sim.

This particular flight was an early morning flight in a Mooney from Anchorage to Kodiak. I was looking out the window and enjoying the early morning sky (Pic 1) and it came alive. Of course the screen shots don't really show the nice dancing effect FS9 gave them, but I kept clicking and ended up with about twenty shots, of which I'll share five.

FS9 continually amazes me for it's stability and design.

    Hi John

    Nice set of screenshots.
When I first saw these on a flight, I thought what the hell is that? Then it suddenly dawned on me. Very clever people, they nearly thought of everything.

Since i bought FS9 years ago...still yet to see the Northern lights.
And i fly long haul routes at night using the arctic region.

Most of my crossings are night time, i have to go to sleep and my co-pilot is probably
seen it number of times. :-)

Cool pics.... I saw them once in Russia . I haven't flown much at night in FS2004 so I've not seen them often.

I wonder if there are the 'aurora australis' viewable from New Zealand and other southern locales.

I thought at the time that they seemed low when in reality they are far above the highest altitude achievable in fs2004. Maybe I'm recalling this incorrectly or it was a graphics card driver problem LOL.
