    Default Hmmmm.....

i think i might of over "added-on" to my FS2004 because when ever i try and go on it it comes up saying "Please insert disk into drive" when its clearly in

i can see no signs of scratching on the disk or anything, every other disk works fine...

any idea why its gone strange?

Go to "My Computer" and click on the disk drive and see if you can "see" it there. If you can't then the disk is gone and you'll need to purchase another FS9. Unfortunatley

On a brighter note - I have heard of some disk restore products that make a CD readable again. You could try that first.

Do you have two CD/DVD drives? Maybe it started looking in the wrong one? Just a thought

I can tell you that too many add-ons won't generate that error. only slows your load time. You still might need to do a CD restore on it.

I had that happen on a couple other programs. When it happened, I tried to copy it to my hard drive to see if the integrity of the disk was intact and it came across a file that was corrupted and it stopped loading. Obviously some surface anomaly and I had to repurchase the program. In the other program I was able to copy them all to my hard drive once and I burned a second CD which the program was able to see. Don’t use “copy disk” just grab the files and copy them to a folder on your hard drive. If it works without generating an error, you might be able to make a disk from the files from the disk. Also, a disk clean product might make it usable again.

    Hope that helps.

By the way the EULA police will be all over that “burn a disk” suggestion. If you have the original and are using it to make the purchased program usable you’re actually compliant but it makes them very nervous so that suggestions might generate some lectures.

    Hi Jet2,
I had tried all the stuff the others have suggested. There is a 10mb portion of Disk 4 which cannot be copied in any copying s/w e.g. Nero, Roxio etc. This is Microsoft's anti-piracy implementation at work - trust me, I tried it, specifically to avoid the hassles you are facing and not to pirate the sim and ended up with a useless CD: a clear 10mb was missing.

Then, I googled for a work-around and presto, a crack for the fs9.cfg file came up. One downloads the file and replaces the default fs9.cfg with this file. Fire up the sim and it will not ask you for disc 4 at all. I am doing this now and my disc 4 is snugly sitting in the DVD box along with its other three siblings;-) If you do not do this, and disc 4 gets scratched, you are s.....d as a fresh purchase may be the only way out; I am not sure Microsoft will give you only disc 4 even if you show them the original box sticker. Comments please...

I had a similar problem. Auto Run wouldnt work and it wouldnt see any disc in either of my drives. I did a complete reinstall of Windows XP and it is like I have a new PC. FS9 flys now. No stutters and the entire PC seems to run better. Its like it is new again. and the damn thing is 4.5 years old.

    Dis,
Did you do an XP re-install without un-install of FS9? Just wondering if that is possible, as XP keeps files for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Or did you do a 'repair' of XP? Just curious if this is possible. Obviously you must have the XP CD, right? Thanks for info.

    Hey Napa.

No, FS9 had been removed, but it wasnt the full uninstall. I was having some serious issues with FS9 and decided to reload it. That was also the time where my dvdplayers decided to stop working. I was able to reinstall the first disc but everytime I clicked on the second disc install, it would fail.

Thats when I took drastic measures and redid the entire windows XP. That was Tuesday Feb26. I think I now (Sat Mar 1) have FS9 back to where it was and boy is it alot better! Maxed out settings with absolutley no stutters or "complaints".

I have the disc that dell gave me.
