Hello there!

My name is Marc Berndsen, 45 years of age and I live in The Netherlands.

I have FS2000 Pro Edition.

Could someone help me out with the following problem:

For my flights I use FS Navigator.

Every time, after takeoff, when I engage the autopilot some aircrafts nose
(not all) were pulling down and then lift up again to continue flying.

What is the cause of this and can I repair it? If yes, how?

I have AirEd.

Many thanks for any help and greetings from The Netherlands to you all!

Marc Berndsen
Hi Marc,
yes, there is a solution for your problem:

The auto pilot controls the pitch of the aircraft via the elevator trim.
Elevetor trim changes happen rather slowly (you can verify this when holding a
trim button depressed and watching the trim gauge). If now, in the moment that
you engage the auto pilot, the trim setting is way off, the autopilot, trying
to reset it as fast as possible, will overreact, reverse, overreact again,
untill finally the right setting has been found. This is the reason of these
heavy oscillations.

The solution: After lift off, adjust the elevator trim manually by getly
reducing the elevator force and adding trim instead untill the aircraft is in a
stable climb without needing any elevator input. Then, and only then, engage
the auto pilot and your aircraft will continue climbing without any
oscillations.

Happy landings.
