    Hello everyone:
I need help with my joystick. It is a MS Sidewinder Prescision 2. It is plugged
into my USB hub and all the software has been installed but in the Win 2K Pro
joystick manager in the control panel, it shows up as not connected. Does
anyone know why this is? I have searched the entire MS gaming website and went
through all the troubleshoot. An interesting side not is that since I got this
joystick (november 01) This has happened a few times, but on a seemingly random
day i will start up my computer and windows display the generic found new
hardware screen and proceed to install all pertinent files. they stick will
work for a time and then teh problem described above will happen. no amount of
changing usb port numbers or plugging it directly in will change anything. i
have a compaq presario 1800T PIII 800 192 megs of ram. if there was a previous
post on this subject please direct me to that. If not i am asking for some
advice on what to do. another side note: when the joystick does show as
connected and is working, it works perfectly. thank you all for your time.

Breu......... I assume that you installed the software first, before plugging
it in. That is very important.
I have one also on a home built machine and I have 4 ports on the machine and a
4 port hub. My joystick will only work on 2 ports, the 2 ports that are closest
to the MoBo. I read somewhere that if the voltage is not high enough going to
the joystick, the computer wont see it.
try other plugs One might work better than the others.

Look carefully at the documentation for the software with your joystick - are
you absolutely, positively certain those drivers are for Win2KPro? Why would a
professional operating system (i.e., one you're going to use for business in an
    office) need joystick drivers?

I strongly suspect those drivers are *not* designed for your current OS, but
one somewhat "lesser than" or prior to your present OS.

The greatest problem getting FS2K to work with WIN2000 seems to be drivers,
    drivers, drivers!

Hi, I put it into the closes port, #1 and it didnt work still. yes i did
install the software first. on the install screen, it didnt find the stick in
the final step when it told me to plug it in. i followed the directions to the
letter but to no avail. thanks for the suggestion though.

Hi, i couldnt find a specific part that said that it was for win2k pro. so
should i uninstall the drivers, and just plug it in? if i do this, what if
windows doesnt recognize it. its just that when it works, it works great.
    thanks for the suggestion

I think you said it above - "part that said that it was for win2k pro..." -
I'll bet money the driver is *not* for win2k pro.

Try www.driverguide.com (I think I got it correct). You have to establish a
membership, but it's free. Snoop around there and see if maybe you can get
lucky and find a joystick driver that will work with your OS.

Hi, sorry i misled you, the cd with the stuff doesnt say anything specifically
for Win2KPro, although it says For Use With Windows 98, 2000, XP, NT or
something like that. i am trying that driver site now, thanks a lot.

I've used USB joysticks with Win2k Pro (not with MS-FS2Kx, though), and I don't
recall having to install any drivers. The OS just saw them. These were a CH
set, although I would think that MS sticks would be - if anything - easier.

What are these drivers supposed to do? I would have thought you would only need
them if you weren't going through DirectInput...

What version of DirectX are you using? (I used 8.0a, then upgraded to 8.1 -
    both worked fine.)

Mind you, there is a "gotcha" in that you need admin rights to calibrate them.

    ...and another thing.

Have you tried it without the USB hub in the way? Is this a self powered hub or
one that's powered from the computer?

hi, i did try it from the port itself and it still said not connected. the hub
is self powered. i will uninstall the drivers and the software and just plug it
in to the back of the computer and see if that works
