Thread: King Air Taxi problems

  1. Default King Air Taxi problems

Im sure this has been probably asked before but, How can you keep the King Air from taxiing at Mach 2. Ive got the throttles at idle and still cant seem to slow it down. Ive been in a king air and I know it doesnt taxi that fast, that would kill the brakes. Thanks in advance for suggestions.

I think the correct way to do it is by adjusting the prop pitch.
Bring them right back to 'feather' to remove all forward thrust.

    Cheers,

    Carl.

I had the same problem in the King Air. Adjust the mixture to "low idle". That should fix it for you (it's not the prop pitch, I don't think).

While the idle thrust on the joystick only brings the throttle back to 1%, pressing F1 on the keyboard does move the throttle all the way to idle, and the King Air stops taxiing at Mach 2 (:-lol I like your description). Weird... It is the same for some other planes, too, which accelerate when the joystick throttle is at idle. However, I make no claim as to whether this is realistic or not - just that I use the F1 key to bring the throttle to complete 0% idle myself.

Also, Another tip I picked up on, on this issue (former Post), is to turn on DeIce during Taxi. Not very realistic, but it does help .

Thanks to everyone who responded, Everything suggested worked except puting the props to feather. when I feathered the props and increased power it did what i expected it to do and didnt move. Thanks

Well that's what I would expect too. I meant to use the prop pitch as an alternate 'thrust' lever during taxi, with full feather as 'idle' and push forward to increase forward thrust. It may not be the 'correct' way to do it, but it does work.

I think braking ocasionally is the answer since in real aircraft it will accelerate too although you already cut the throttle!
When we taxi in real A/C we keep our speed by turning-head-left (P.I.C. :) ) and see the a/c speed by ground refference, and some braking (or in some case reverse prop) is needed to keep the speed down!

That's what real aircraft act in real taxi, it WILL speed up if you don't brake! Brakings is part of taxiing..

And turning in real A/C involve differential braking, especially in tight turn. You can use F11 - F12 in FS for L/R braking...
