    Default Poor framerates

I know everybody's whining. But I have a question. I'm running an AMD Athlon 1000 MHz with 128 MB of RAM, and a GeForce 2 Pro card, and I'm still getting bad framerates. Like down to 9-11 at Miami Intl, for example. Any ideas or general tips on how to improve that???

Uncheck Terrain Texture Detail... it makes HUGE difference. Only thing is, you won't be able to see the water reflections.. but to me that's no biggie...

I found this out the other day and other than the above, I can't really see the advantage of having the Terrain Texture Detail option.. I don't see (other than KILLING FPS) what the advantage is other than the water....

Hope this helps. One other thing... the fps slider... if you set it too high, the game will automatically degrade your scenery so that you can obtain that indicated fps. I keep my around 13 fps or there-abouts... because with this sim, 13-15 fps is VERY flyable.

I respectfully disagree with that one blurb. :)

The use of the FPS slider is as follows:
MS determined that many users would have very capable systems on which to fly. They established a FPS *LIMITER* to prevent the system from unnecessairily spending time drawing frames, and rather redirect its processing to flight dynamics, ATC, AI, etc.

Set the slider to the MAX FPS you want to see. If your computer is capable of doing better, instead of working on frames, it'll work on other processing (ie: flight modeling)

It will not adjust your scenery levels.

    Try it yourself!
Set the slider about 5 frames below the rates you normally see.
Now, you'll find your frame rate is limited to the setting you've selected. Now set it UP to the max... notice that your scenery density/quality has not decreased, nor has your frame rates increased over what you'd normally see.

Consider it a frame rate ceiling.

    Hi Greg....

I did what you said... this is why I said what I said. If you choose unlimited (FPS slider) your computer will attempt to reach that standard... if it can not do so, it "adjusts" your scenery quality. There was one other gentleman that also noticed this. It doesn't perse "adjust" the scenery... but it subsequently does in the attempt to meet what fps level you're trying to attain.

    Comments?

What Motherboard and Memory are you using?
The Athalon will run fastest if you have a MB with a 266FSB (front side bus) and can use PC2100 (2.1ghz) Memory.

    As a bench mark.

    AMD Athalon 1.2 ghz
    M/B 266FSB, 512mb PC2100 memory
    Voodoo3000 16mb.

With Fs2000, all sliders maxed, rain, clouds (dynamic scenery off) I get 25-55 FPS over Meigs.

    Hi Bill,

If you look closely, then you put your mouse over the scenery settings, you will notice a brief little description of what the slider actually does.
