I just got CFS and cannot enable hardware acceleration. This is no problem wiht
FS98 and my FS98 runs really well. My setup:
    Pentium Pro 200mHz
    Monster 3D
    Viper 300 4meg's
    96 meg's system RAM

This works quite well with FS98 but there I can select Hardware acceleration
whereas with CFS this option is not selectable. I did install DirectX6 but no
help. Anyone have any ideas what can be done so that Hardware acceleration is
    selectable in CFS?

    Thanks,
    Dave
    Hi Dave,
On your first screen after the intro movie there is a 'Settings' choice.
Click it. Then click 'Enable hardware acceleration" so there is an 'x' in it.
Click 'Advanced Display Settings'...'Hardware Acceleration'....'Full screen
device driver'. There should be two choices, your default card and your
accelerator card choice. Click on your 3D card choice.
If it's not there, go to Windows control panel where there should be a DirectX
icon you can click on and see if everything is how it should be. That's all I
know, so I hope it helps. :-) --- Cloudy ---

In the "Settings" menu, there is a line for Enable Hardware Accelleration.
Check it and that should do it. You may want to go into the "Advanced Display
Settings" menu from there to select your 3D accelerator card. Works for me!

I had a similar problem and tried re-installing the DirectX6.
    It worked for me.
It was located on the CFS CD under Directx/dxsetup.exe

Same for me. The first time I installed CFS, DirectX6 did not install very
well, and I was unable to use my 3D Card. After manually install DirectX6, it
    worked.

Thanks for the tip. I remember a similar problem with FS98 some time ago. The
solution was to re-install video drivers for my Viper 330 (I am not using the
Monster board for MSCFS), then Hardware acceleration could be selected from
MSCFS Options>Preferences menu. Worked like like a charm. Something not getting
bound in the registry upon installation of MSCFS? I don't know, but now know
how to fix it. I thank you for your reply to the message board.

Thanks for your post to the message board. I found the solution was to
re-install the drivers for my Viper 330, then the checkbox for enabling
hardware acceleration was selectable. I had a similar problem with FS98 some
time ago and just forgot about what needed to be done. Something not being
bound in the registry? I don't know, but I can enable the option and things are
    working fine.

Yet another question regarding drivers: I have a 4meg PCI 3D card. I
was on the manufacturers' web site and found an updated driver.
The problem is that it supports Directx5.0 Do I need to wait for one
that supports 6.0 or do you think any updated driver will offer an improvement?

Also, how do I display the frame rate while in CFS? I wanted to compare it
to what I have been reading here because to me it is too slow.

    Thanks

    Pete

    Pete,
My guess is that the drivers will be okay with DirectX6. The frame rate is
displayed by hitting the "shift" key once, then the "z" key twice.
