Thread: GeForce2 Series: to MX, MX-200, MX-400, etc., or not to, etc. :-lol

Default GeForce2 Series: to MX, MX-200, MX-400, etc., or not to, etc. :-lol

Would like the differences clarified, please. It would take my poor 28K modem hours to search through the forums to find the old threads on this topic (I remember reading about it early in the summer). People have been rather helpful in the 'FS2K2 likes and dislikes' thread, but I'd like to be refreshed on the info. from the summer.

If I get a new card in the next few weeks before Thanksgiving, it would most likely be a GeForce2 MX with 32MB ($100 at my nearest CompUSA). I hear that the MX-200 is 'crap,' while the MX-400 is very good (or at least better relative to the MX). I won't consider the -200, but does the MX have the same limitations? And is the -400 that much better than the MX?

Can anyone with a straight MX and FS2K2 comment on whether the ground/chrome/water reflections are present? And whether the textures are sharp? These are the main reasons more my upgrade.

And please try to 'bump' this thread until 4:00 ET Monday, please! (when I next get online).

    Thank you, any help appreciated,
    Ray

Try the Asus V7700 GeForce 2 GTS Deluxe with 32mb. If its retail... it comes with 3d glasses, a game, and many other software. The card with tv-in and tv-out. U can also connect a dvd player to it! most likely a VCR too. Pretty neat!

Comparison between MX, MX400 and regular GeForce 2:

Short story is get an MX400. MX is almost as good, so get that if it is substantially less expensive.

Are you aware that an MX300, MX400 is also a sound card from Diamond?
Am I missing the point here?
    Ted.

Yeah, although it's been a while since I saw those. Those soundcards have nothing to do with these video chipsets, though. The similarity in naming schemes is a coincidence.

BTW, were you aware that the maker of the chipset that was on those soundcards, Aureal, has ceased operations, and that Diamond is called Sonic Blue these days?

No I wasn't aware of that, thanks.
The MX300 (which I have) is (was?) a very good soundcard and had never had a problem with stutter with FS. It produces good sound. Seems to not like DX8 and the Joystick Port however. Joystick port does not work with DX8.
Wonder if there is a patch for this problem (the MS patch for this does not fix the problem).
Do you know the new address for Diamond (blue wotsit).
    Thanks,
    Ted.

They're at www.sonicblue.com, but I've noticed that some older support stuff is still only available at the old site www.diamondmm.com
