Thanks to all who have been posting info on CFS. I think I'm going to save my
money and not bother buying CFS until I get a better system. From what I've
gathered anything below a 200 pentium will run CFS but frame rates are
extremely low with 800x600 res. and detail set in the middle. Don't think
anything below 10fps is really useable and I'm not to keen on running 640x480
on a 17 inch monitor. Have to say I'm a little disapointed in Microsoft, I
rather they just say you need a 266+ wouldn't have been so excited the past
couple months. Bummer, was looking forward to shooting some of you people down

BTW: my system is a 166MMX 32mb ram 8mb Voodoo with a Mitsumi CD drive(not good
I gather) if anyone thinks I'm wrong or right wouldn't mind hearing about it.
I'm sure there is alot of you out there with comparable systems.
You have Voodoo which is realy all you need to speed up your gameplay. I've
heard complaints from people who have 333Mhz 16 GB. hard drives 32mb. of memory
but I have heard good mentions from people with 150Mhz. 2.3GB. hard drives
    25mb. memory and Voodoo 8mb.

I would suggest you wait a week or so after the opening to get some more input
from people. But not wait for a new system.

Well, I have to say that i have ya beat. lol
    I'm running a pent 133 ( yes a 133 ) with a 14 inch monitor and a Monster 3D II
8mg vid acc. i agree that MS has got to stop pushing products out before they
are ready and complete. I got CFS the other day and luckily it wasnt a bad disk
(strike 1)and after doing a full install I played around with it a little. CFS
doesnt have all the little neat options that FS98 does so you can tweak your
performance. just the basics like Scenary complexity. Granted the graphics are
the best Ive ever seen, but with me using the min required and a vid acc the
fastest that Ive seen on my machine was around 15 FR and that was on
Multiplayer and with alot of scenery , also at 640*480 res. it did get up to 30
FR but i was totally vertical with only blue sky showing. LOL
It is fun, and I do find myself playing on multiplayer quite a bit forgetting
how long Ive been on, But Microsoft has a long way to go with this one. I dont
know who Microsoft gets to try out these betas, but they must not be guys like
us in the Flight Sim community or guys who cant afford a 450 mhz system with
all the trimmings, oh well, guess thats what patches are for. hehe

You got 15 fps on a P 133? Wow! You should be pleased with that,
considering you're running minmum equipment for that software. I don't
see what MS did wrong here. Afterall, they *do* (if I'm not mistaken)
recommend at least a 200 MHz chip. If you're a person running a 200 MHz
chip and a 3D accelerator card (which I don't think any serious gamer should
be caught without these days) then you should do well. We all have to
remember how quickly the industry is pumping out newer and faster hardware
all the time, and the software companies surely aren't going to lag behind
them just so people with older systems can run the software with optimal
performance. Hey, at least you've got the Monster II....I've got the original
Monster, and I'd sure like your card <G> Well, good luck. Hopefully you'll
    be able to upgrade soon!
