I'm a little rusty on FS4 related stuff... As I recall "AAF" is required to
design FS4 aircraft but not to use them. It's been a long time, though, so
my memory may be faulty.

The AAF is used to build a 'shell' to put over the top of an experimental
aircraft created with ASD, so that you can make a 'real' aircraft, rather
than just changing the colors in ASD. You don't need AAF to fly the aircraft
though.

I used to know all this stuff...it's just been so long since I used FS4.
Hopefully the person who originally asked about this will come back and
read your reply.
