    Hi Dennis (and Pete),

Hey, its nice to know you guys are still monitoring the traffic here. I know
the posts have become pretty thin of late, but when I realised that the
American Airlines story hadn't hit this hangar I thought maybe everyone had
gone! I still do most of my development and test work with FS5, and I guess
I'll keep it even if I move up to FS2000.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with installing the joystick on a
laptop. I had a lot of problems with that a few months ago. The drivers were
installed correctly and Windows said they were working OK but the machine just
wouldn't recognise the stick. Eventually I discovered that the stick port was
    disabled in the BIOS!

    Hello, Richard,
Truth be known, I haven't fooled with it much yet. I have a little
Toshiba Portege 3025. It has an auxiliary gizmo that allows hookup with
printer and big keyboard (both of which I've got functioning, if I want
them). The CH joystick wasn't plug-'n'-play because its plug was different
from the gizmo's, and that's where I left it. I'll keep you posted if
I try again and figure out what works. -- Dennis S, FSEngEd@AOL.COM

I tried fs5.1 and 98 on 2 lap tops....besides the video card problems
the games port was not working out at all....plus the frame rate on the
    lcd screen was draggy....
I ended up just blowing it out...

    Pete,

    I got FS5.1 running reasonably well on a laptop with a 266MHz Pentium. I don't
really use it for serious flying - its just part of a portable scenery design
setup. The frame rate isn't too bad, and I had no video problems, but I've
never got the sound right and I get occasional program crashes. The problem is
that I can't seem to get full extended memory support with Windows 98 on the
laptop, no matter how many times I rewrite the autoexec.bat and config.sys
files. Still, it's OK for its purpose.
