This is my first time at this site and using this forum. I've been using
Microsoft Flight Simulator for 3 years. It's obvious that I'm waaaaaaay behind
on the world of flight sim. I currently have MSFS 5.1. What do I need to catch
up? Any suggestions? Software or hardware?
I run two FS setups. My old 486 has FS5.1 plus Flight Shop (a near-essential
purchase), scenery and planes you could download from this site, along with
    instrument panels etc..
The P166 has FS98 (includes the ability to run downloaded planes), for which
the essential add-ons are a flight-planner and squawk box/pro-controller for
internet multi-user crowded skies. I don't have a 3D graphics card, and yet
frame rate is tolerable even in extremely dense scenery. But they're so cheap
it must be a good buy.
    Have fun.

    from drquest....only an opinion.!!!!
im running fs5.1 on my packard hell computer...
i sujest get a copy of apollo flight shop $40 now....this gives you
the ability to build or add planes to fs5.1 plus it has ATC mode that
talks to you ..(not to impressed) though..
Here or at Avsim.com you can download Airport 2.1 which gives you the
ability to lay down runways and scenery..I use it my self to make the
area i live in come to life...i found adding airplanes slows down the
    frame rate though...
I if your questioning buying flight shop go to the library at this
site betwwenn the 5300 fs5.1 aircraft all the dash boards and
scenery (which does not need flight shop for scenery)...the $40 is worth
it plus christmas is comming..(believe in santa)
with all this crap added to 5.1 you wont hav time to buy fs98..anyway
they will be giving that away in a few months any way..with fs 2000
    comming out soon....
have fun with 5.1 dont worry about the fs98 gang ....pete
