Does anyone know how to paint aircraft for Flight Sim 5.0a WITHOUT Flight Shop?
I'm having a very hard time finding out. If anyone can help, I would
appreciate it a lot.

A program called R8Paint i think may help you. It can be found either here in
Flightsim.com or simflight.com or somewhere I don't remember properly.
