I have tried to load fs5.1 on my new pentium computer with win95 It seems
there is no real control with the joystick, and the plane will just crash
    randomly...
Also my cd drive is drive q, but the program does not give me that option when
    loading other scenery areas...
    Any Ideas...

    Thanks
    FS5.1 is strictly dos based.
You can get a joystick, depending on which type you have (you can even get a
combination of controllers to work) to function well in this mode, on any
    pentium/w/95 based dos system.
In order for dos based games like FS5.1 to see a drive letter which is beyond
the normal range of drive letters, you must add a line to the DOSSTART.BAT in
    your windows folder.
In front of the line which has MSCDEX.EXE in it, you must add: LASTDRIVE=Z.
This will allow FS5.1, and other DOS based programs, to "see" the drive.
Another thing is, if you have run the installation from another drive, (for
instance, if the original cd drive letter was D: and you installed the program
from there) the program will continue to hunt for that drive letter when it
calls for a cd. In order to correct this, you need to run the installation
again, from the new cd drive letter.
Last, but not least, you may find yourself needing to either boot to a boot
diskette, or boot to a special mode of dos, in order to get the simulator to
run. There is a special mode of dos which will increase upper memory so that
FS5.1 runs in a higher frame rate and resolution and uses less TSRs. It must be
manually entered to the desktop icon created for FS5.1, or written to a created
autoexec.bat and config.sys on a boot diskette. If you cannot find the info on
this subject, or do not already know how to accomplish this task, leave another
posting here, with a request for the info, and I will send it to you.

Thanks for your reply dave! I really appreciate it. I did load the program
from that same drive, but maybe i should try doing it in dos instead of through
    windows.

I know that on the old computer I had no problems with this, and the
installation program gave me the option to make a startup disk. In win95 It
does not give me that option. Any other information you can give me will be
    appreciated....

    Thanks,
    allen
