Thread: New Controlled Airport

  1. Default New Controlled Airport

I fly out of Stillwater, Oklahoma (KSWO), and the airport is going through some great changes. We are controlled as of tomorrow, the main runway is closed while getting a 1400 foot extension, our ILS is inop during the extension, and we will go to a Class D airport this summer. I would love to modify the airport in FS2002 to reflect these changes, particularly the new tower and single runway operations. I have not seen anything in the SDKs about changing ATC at airports from uncontrolled to controlled. Does anyone know how I can go about doing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS. If this is successful I will upload it as well.

Not that I was even planning on flying into Stillwater (in the real world of course). But if I do, I guess this is a prime example of needing to keep you charts and AFDs up to date. It wouldn't be such a good idea to bust into someone's Class Delta airspace when your out of date charts tells you it's Class Echo airspace now would it?

Actually, there's only a NOTAM right now for the tower. Since the charts only get updated every 56 days, the airport will not officially be Class D until sometime in June or July. Right now we are just Class E with a tower! After talking to the tower chief and airport manager, they expect there to be a few bumps with pilots not checking NOTAMs for a short period.
