Default FS 2001

Small point that is probably of no interest to anyone.........
What happened to FS2001?.............and.....People are already talking about FS2004.........What happened to FS2003 then?.......

Anyone who knows anything about networking and the internet will know that we use TCP/IP 4.0 to communicate.
Well the new version is TCP/IP 6.0
What happened to TCP/IP 5.0 ?

WHY DO PEOPLE DO THAT..........ARE THEY TRYING TO DELIBERATELY CONFUSE US???

It has certainly worked with me??????

As I said ...A small point that is probably of no interest to anyone. (except me of course)

Confused of the UK.

So get used to FS98, FS2000, FS2002, FS2004...............

What happened to FS96, FS97, FS99? They were never planned and that's actually not a bad thing.

But in general MS is kind of weird about version numbers. Take Word for Windows for instance. One day some of us were using 2.0, then the next edition came out and overnight it had jumped to 6.0! After all, the biggest competitor WordPerfect had already grown to version 5.1 over the years and it's a psychological thing..

Similarly, whatever happened to Windows NT 1.0 or 2.0? Well, biggest competitor (and arguably mutual forefather) OS/2 was already at version 3.0 by that time, as was MS's own Windows. Introducing anything as version 1.0 might've put some people off (and could've brought back memories to the horrors that were MS-DOS 1.0-2.xx and Windows < 3)

LAST EDITED ON Oct-21-01 AT 08:08AM (EDT)[p]I think you are right Biff,
I think the answer lies in the fact that no company wants to release a version of lets say 5.0 when the competition has version no 6.1. Who buys 5.0 when the 6.1 from another company is on the shelf...

LAST EDITED ON Oct-21-01 AT 12:28PM (EDT)[p]When a product is branded by year you will see it skip; like FS2000 to FS2002. Developers do not skip version numbers. They may not always be released to the public but you do not go from a 4 to a 6 without a version 5! version numbers changed based on modifications. Version 4.2.1 means Major upgrade 4, Minor upgrade 2, revision 1.

That sounds reasonable to me. Developers probably don't skip version numbers. Unfortunately, marketing people do.

I'm glad they don't release a new version of FS every year. At least we don't have to spend money on hardware upgrades every year.
