I recently received an email from the Abacus Publishing technical support
department. I inquired about whether or not they intended to upgrade Airport
& Scenery Designer 2.1 to another version for FS2002, similar to what they did
going from ASD 2.0 for FS98 to ASD 2.1 for FS2000.
The answer was definitive:
" Airport and Scenery Designer will not be updated to be FS2002 compatible.
There are notable differences in FS2002's scenery that ASD does not and will
not support. We cannot offer support on problems encountered with ASD when
used on a system it was not designed for. "
I don't fault Abacus I guess. Their response about technical support does make
good business sense, but it is rather disappointing.
Personally, I had hoped that an upgrade would be available at some point. While
my scenery from FS2000 works in FS2002, it does have significant problems.
Taxiways bounce planes around where they didn't before, exclude files that the
scenery requires also exclude the autogen scenery in FS2002, runways and
taxiways are no longer aligned with the default dynamic aircraft, and probably
many other problems that I haven't even discovered yet.
I suspect that many developers are aggressively working on fixes for ASD
scenery for FS2002, but in the interim, I wouldn't expect any support from
Abacus.
Just for your info.
Steve
