    hey guys..

Im working on a fairly large airport that im building over default scenery and
i want to exclude the default and lay mine over it. I used the exclude function
in airport but it doesnt seem to work. double checked the exclude line in the
scenery.cfg and its ok. i dont want to use the flatten switch in favor of
keeping the mesh terrain around the airport .. which works fine in the default
scenery. I have the altitude set correct and the new scenery at priority one on
my scenery library list. What can i do to fix this? I know its probably simple
but i cant figure it out.. also the airport web site wont load for me..

    thanks

    BRAD,

It's 9:00am Eastern Time Zone, and I was just able to access the "airport" web
site.....I'm assuming here that you mean Tom Hiscox's Airport2.6 program
area....so it's possible with the Code Red trojan antics, his server may have
been down when you attempted to gain access.

Anyway, to your scenery problem: "flattening" an area shouldn't affect the
default ground textures since all you are doing in effect, is artificially
changing the _elevation_ from the original MS value to that which you want for
    your project.

In your attempt to retain these textures, you may not have designated the
"exclude" area large enough to actually have any effect. The "exclude" switch
is meant to "remove" default objects, nav aids, etc. and not ground texture
tiling. Try placing the coordinates which describe the four corners further
    out, if necessary.

And as a further hint, make the "exclude" a separate *.bgl file, and change
it's property to "Read only". There was a time when the Airport design program
used to keep refreshing this info every time one compiled a *.bgl. In other
words, when the "exclude" info is part and parcel of an over-all scenery file
(*.bgl), that "exclude" info sometimes confuses things. Once you have this
"exclude.bgl" created, "Go to" the default airport; and while accessing the
Scenery Library, enable/disable your Scenery Area to guage whether your exclude
switch is functioning the way you intend. "Slewing" around your area can help
determine this. Once happy that you have indeed excluded all you want, then,
"Open" (start) a new *.apt file and begin the actual work on your project,
    including any "flatten" modification.

    Hope this helps,

    Barney

    hey guys...
i tried making a seperate bgl file for excluding only which doesnt work. I then
deleted both bgl entries in the scenery.cfg file and started over first with
making the exclusion bgl file...then my scenery file..with no exclusion in it.
still nothing. Next i tried it with just the exclusion bgl in fltsim but that
doesnt work either. i feel stupid because i cant even get it to exclude the
    default scenery. any more ideas????

    BRAD,

Your last attempt at making just the "exclude" *.bgl is the proper thing to do.
It now seems you're missing something, and it's likely a minor thing at that.
If you like, give us the following information:

    1) exact coordinates of your area.

    2) name of default airport

    3) objects, navaids, etc. you wish to "remove"
