Joe, whilst a long time beleiver in not fiddling with stuff I don't understand, I saw a suggestion the other day that basically said not to let win handle virtual memory.

Instead set min and max to 3 times Ram or 512 if lower.

So, good idea or bad?

That's from someone that still thinks 2k2 is the dogs wotsits, even on a sad amd 500, 128, voodoo 3000 - and there's nothing wrong with the 2k2 ILS :-)

IMHO a BAD idea. there is no point.

Windows - any version above 95.. does a great job at handling memory.

Setting constraints can cause problems at a later date or with a differing combo of applications.

In the days of 64 meg ram, there was some merit to limit swapping. but even then - the results were hit n miss.

No, leave it to windows.. it does a great job. I have oft quoted this, but in FSBENCH, my machine held the record with fs2002 for a long time.. NO TWEAKS at all, no vcache settings, no registry or gpu tweaks.. nada..

'tis the same with swap files on separate drives etc.. pure bunkum and misunderstood hype.
