Thread: Second throttle axis on Saitek Aviator in Flight Simulator 2004

Default Second throttle axis on Saitek Aviator in Flight Simulator 2004

I've recently bought a Saitek Aviator (aka AV8R) and have been having problems with the second throttle axis in Flight Simulator 2004.

The first throttle (left hand side) works fine, but the second (right) throttle lever doesn't appear to do anything within FS. It functions in the windows calibration window, works in other software and is recognised by FS on the axis assignments screen but doesn't seem to work within the sim.

Has anyone else come across this problem, or know of a solution?

Yes, this happened to me too when I first installed the joystick last night. I scoured the internet for a solution, finding only your post without a response But have no fear - I eventually realized that there's actually a simple solution. It's just that FS makes it less than obvious!

    -In FS, go to Settings>Sensitivities
-Choose the joystick tab, make sure Saitek Aviator is selected, and then scroll down to the bottom of the list. You'll find a setting for "Propeller axis". Despite its name, this controls the #2 throttle lever, whether you've assigned it to control your prop or not!
-You'll see that the sliding sensitivity bar for the Propeller axis is all the way to the left, meaning throttle 2 is essentially deactivated for FS. Just slide the bar all the way to the right and you're good to go!

While you're in that window, you might want to reduce the sensitivity for the ailerons, elevator, and rudder... I find a setting just a bit above the lowest makes these more controllable.

With one slight refinement that solved it for me.

When I first looked at the sensitivities tab there wasn't a setting for throttle 2, but if you assign it to something (anything!) first there is a setting with sensitivity set to zero. Problem solved!

Hopefully this solution will be googleable for any other people who have the same problem.

I'd be interested in any profiles anyone may have setup. Maybe post them here?

    Default Profiles Yet?

Hi: Anyone develop a good profile for the Aviator joystick for FS9 or FSX? I want to program the second throttle lever for RPM control, but can't seem to do it...Any help appreciated!

Don't know how old this post is, but just wanted to say thanks to the poster! I was tearing my hair out trying to work this one out, and good old google led me to this thread.

    Thanks again
