ARTCC switch...HELP!!!

Hello all, I was wondering when your flying online in an area without a controler, for ex. your ar KJFK, and there is no controler, but your destination is boston, and they have controlers there. How do you know when to contact BOS. What I want to know is how do you know when you are entering another controlers airspace without the previous controler telling you? I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

1) DME. You can use your DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) to tell you how close you are to a certain airports airspace.

2) Ground reference measurements. To do this you could say identify a plant or a road and measure the distance to the airspace via a sectional.

3) RNAV or LORAN. This is another navigational tool that you can use to determine your localtion in relation to an airports airspace.

4) Moving Map GPS. These are great to show you where you are and when you are about to cross over into a known airspace.

5) If you are lost in real life you could always do the four C's. Climb Conserve Confess and Comply. Climb so that the major airport you are nearby can see you on radar. Conserve fuel because you don't know where you are. Confess to being lost... it happens don't worry about it. Comply with any instructions you are given.

All of these should always be used with a sectional. Also be sure to get permission before busting through an airports airspace. The NTSB and the FAA get testy when somebody busts Bravo and doesn't get permissoin first.
