Thread: Newbie SDK Object Placement Tool question--lousy trees

  1. Default Newbie SDK Object Placement Tool question--lousy trees

Hi, I've just started playing around with the FSX SDK Object Placer tool, and it's working out ok for my needs. However, the trees display very poorly, especially the shadows. I used the veg_* type trees. How can I get better looking trees using the built-in scenery objects?

    thanks,
    Chris

I have never used this tool so I don't know what objects it gives access to. Are there different types of tree available? If so have you tried them?

A partial answer to my own question. I originally used trees labeled veg_b_oak... etc. I tried the ones labeled veg_tb_oak... and they look a lot better BUT the shadows are still poor. I think there may be a way to disable shadows in the xml file...

A new question, in case there is anyone else out there using this tool. I have not been able to move an object when I reload a file. The objects have a giant box around them on reload (much bigger than when originally placed) and though I can highlight the box, I cannot move the object with my mouse. Anyone know of a trick?

    thanks,
    Chris

I am not sure what you mean by disabling shadows in the XML File. If you are referring to the XML placement code then in FSX it is possible to use a <NoShadow/> element to eliminate the shadow of an object.

I don't use the obbject placement tool so can't answer that question. However there are a bunch of guys over at fsdeveloper.com who are/have used it and they may be able to help
