Well I did it! I flew my first cross country using IFR and although it makes flying exciting on long distance trips I have to stay with my computer (even during autopilot) cant take the risk of missing a ATF message and getting my IFR flight plan cancelled. This is a problem because I have to land and refile another flight plan. Is there anyway to do this while airbore?

    Hey,
I hope this is the correct answer. In long flights, like 10 hrs , how do I not get my IFR plan cancelled even my aircraft is 500 feet above the ocean ! Well, its just that, don't contact the new atc and just stay there, and when u r near to the airport, contact the atc, automatically the nearest atc comes to the list, talk to it, and it will vector u ,and land at the airport. easy ? Well, thats always what I do in long flights in IFR. I just imagine I went to the pilot bunk to sleep :-lol
    Take care
    And Happy Landings ! :-wave

You dont need to stay at your PC. When a traffic centre hands you off dont make contact with the next centre - you are now free to leave your PC and let the autopilot fly the plane!! When you are ready to start talking to ATC again just contact the centre!!

Hi DeShieldsone40, Congrats on your flight and I know it is fun flying with the auto-pilot, but what is the fun of having the auto-pilot do everything for you. We have to do something if you are going to take credit for your adventure. Good luck in the future and happy flying. Harry
