Default crappy pedals or strong winds?

My CH pedals are getting old. The new phenomenon is the rudder of the plane heaving to 45 degrees left at fl 360 or more. I should drop more? I notice it is happening often on this flight from Frankfurt to LAX over Greenland and Canada. Is it the jet stream (I am using winds aloft) or are my pedals just crapping out. I am saving up for the Saitek set up.

OK, Chums, anything you can teach me, I'd be beholding.

Try flying with no wind, and see if that changes anything. If you experience the phenomenon again, it´s probably your pedals.
Or, keep winds aloft, disconnect pedals, and check Autorudder. If you experience the phenomenon again, it´s probably the wind.

You indicate, that it doesn´t always happen, so to ensure comparable conditions, you should save your flight from a point from which you would experience the phenomenon. Repeat flight until you save a flight with the phen. Then load and fly that flight under the mentioned conditions.

Tell us what you experience, so we may learn.

And by the way, the Saitek rudders are good. Just remember to reverse brake´s axis, otherwise your brakes get stuck as soon as you touch ´em. Set sensitivity to full, and null zone very low, 3 or 5.
Only drawback is, the resistance on the brake axis is low. So I can´t rest my feet on the pedals without activating the brakes. So I rest my heels on the platform of the pedals, and just tilt my feet to activate brakes. The pedal movement is good, with adjustable resistance.

    Thanks, Crewe.

I think my pedals have had it. Recalibration helps, but it is a struggle to mid-line the pedals. Tried the auto rudder solution and plane worked fine. Time for the Saiteks.

Do you or anyone else know if the Saitek pedals will work with the CH yoke? Gotta cut costs here, but still feed my FS addiction.

    Thank you Chum,

    Victor

BTW, the CH Pedals have been my "old paint" since at least 1999. Good job, CH.

I don't have a CH yoke but I do have two joysticks one Saitek and one Logitec. Both hooked up along with my Saitek Pedals. No conflict at all. Crewe is correct though, you need to reverse both axises after you assign them and also you need to reduce the null zone as well. I struggled at first and thought I was having a driver conflict. Saitek pedals are the way to go.

Don´t see why they should interfere. They have separate USB-connection, and they list as independent game controller, even in FS. Important, when doing the setup I described, make sure you´ve selected the rudder pedals. Within that setup it is advised to choose "Simple" and not "Advanced settings". When I did my setup, the toe brake axis were assigned to ailerons! Just select left and right brake, and change the assignments.

With regards to cutting costs, you COULD try to take your CH pedals apart, maybe some dust or bent leaver could be fixed with simple means? Spare parts at: http://www.chproducts.com/shop/parts.html

BTW. Don´t know ´bout the CH´s, but the Saiteks centre automatically.

On another note: Can you tell me, how´s the resistance in the brake axis in the CH´s? As I mention ´bout the only drawback in the Saiteks, the brake axis won´t support the weight of your feet, or my feet at least. But I do have relatively short achillies tendons, adding some extra pressure downwards when ankles are positioned near 90 degr. So, simply resting my feet in the pedal will activate the brakes, but I´ve found my way around that problem, and I enjoy the pedals very much.

Just found this, if ppl have trouble with CH pedals and Linux. http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdev.php?id=211

And another interesting one for you, Vic (halfway down the page ) http://home.earthlink.net/~x-plane/FAQ-Joysticks.html

Let us know if any of the cheap methods work ;-)
