Thread: Joystick Recommendation

  1. Default Joystick Recommendation

Can anyone recommend a USB joystick with 'twist' that is ambidextrous? I'm left handed, so most of the right-hand joysticks are quite uncomfortable.

    Thanks in advance...

    Default RE: Joystick Recommendation

I don't know of such a beastie, though there may be one or more out there. But I thought I'd comment for a moment from the real world perspective.

Most real world aircraft I've flown with a stick, are set up to use the right hand on the stick and the left hand on the throttle -- not switchable for a southpaw. There are a handful of exceptions, such as the SF260 where, in the left seat, you'll use the left hand on the stick and from the right seat you'll use your right hand on the stick.

On the other hand, aircraft that use a yoke generally are set up to require the left hand on the yoke and the right hand on the throttle, if you're in the left seat, and the reverse if you're in the right seat. As a CFI, I had to get used to both, such that I'm equally comfortable with either hand in either role. It took about 5 or 6 hours during my CFI training (many years ago) before I got somewhat comfortable flying from the right seat, but within a few more hours flying from either seat (thus using either hand) was second nature.

I guess my point, as it relates to the sim, is that if you're unable to find what you are looking for, a few hours spent with the right handed version will soon put you in a reasonable comfort zone.

Still, I wish you luck finding what you are after.

I've had an EVO for three years now, and it's great for laptop flying (no pedals or throttle).

    Hope this helps.

    I have to recommend Saitek.

I still use my 3D Cyborg from way back in the FS2000 days.

I have a ST290 that also converts to left handed use.
