I would have to say that flying choppers in FSX is far easer then in past versions of FS. Its making me feel like a pro at flying them.

If you think you're really good now, try your hand at Multiplayer using GameSpy and join in a choppers only server...don't even fly, just sit on the ramp and watch everyone else land........I didn't know Bell provided the Jetranger with a submarine option.
You are correct, the FSX helo model is much more forgiving than the FS9 one was............

Now if they can figure out a way to simulate <seat of the pants> flying. I'm just so used to flying rotary wing aircraft by sight and feel, that Flying them in fsX is almost like starting all over again. Actually crashed the first time coming in expecting ground effect to come in to play, and when it didn't.. :D
Captain,
You're a 'Pro' eh? Well can you hover? Hover rotate? How about taxi 10 ft up, 5 kts? THAT is minimum for 'Pro' rating. Be sure to turn off all wind. Helio flying in FSX is really bad with wind blowing.
Jake,
When online, and you see AC sink when landing, it's because they (you too) need to push the 'B' key. That calibrates the Barometer, which sets the Elevation more accurately.
David,
What are you using? Joystick? And what keys are you using for throttle (collective)? I used the F1-F4 keys for FS98/2k2/2k4 and they work good. You can't use keypad keys, unless you're left handed. I now use a USB Keypad, which sits on my keyboard's wrist pad, where my left hand can do throttle keys.
The trick to landing (for me) is to TAP F3 3 times, then TAP F2 2 times (or, keypad '9' and '3' keys), giving it throttle to stay up, and taking some away while I lift nose, to slow it down. Then you give throttle back so as not to crash, as 'ground effect' is nil in FSX.
You can control the descent better with nose up/down AND throttle, than with throttle alone. The object is to establish hover over landing spot. Something to shoot for. After you get gooder, you can go land without hover. Just a hint.

After logging in at Gamespy the default mode is "free flight". Clicking the down arrow reveals a list of different modes, two of which are "Bush Flying" and "Helicopters".
Usually there are more than one session that claims to be helis only, but you're probably still going to get buzzed by loonies in Extra 300's.....
I'm using the term "server" incorrectly - I'm referring to the host of the session as the server.....I didn't mean to mislead anyone....but usually when you highlight a session the details are terse but informative, and that's where I look for heli sessions.
Hope this helps.
Jake
Anyone know of any decent helicopter panels, that actually have a radio altimeter? Really helps make things just a tad more realistic, when your trying to fly the IFR box.
Actually, It was only the first time that I flew in that I crashed landed. Not so much a crash landing, then a skid assembly over torq. Can hear the crewchief whining now... I used to have the full ch rudder peddles and erata, only so old, that can not connect to a current system. Currently I have a logitech force feedback joystick, twists for tail rotor control, and an up/down lever for collective input. Really makes for interesting flying trying to control horizontal movements when your used to flying with your fingertips. All I can say is, I really miss my rudder pedals. Have to see if I can find a usb set somewhere.
Guys,
Did not think I needed to mention it, but for 90% helicopter flying, online, using their own server (not gamespy), go to HoverControl.com. They are ALL about helicopters. Knowlegeable, and nice, people.
Nice panels, gauges, etc, and of course the best helicopters on the net are all available there. Join up so you can post, and get training session time online. No use doing it on your own, when there is help available. You might just get 'into it' and learn more than you wanted to learn (I did).
Get the 'HC' scenery for 4S2 (Hood River, Or) and KMSO (Missoula, Montana) and install it to get practice helipads and a place to meet for practice or just sightseeing. Hood River has other scenery, and generally has more to see and enjoy. Cheers.
