Thread: FS9 gauges work, FSX don't. Why?

Default FS9 gauges work, FSX don't. Why?

In the process of replacing or adding gauges in aircraft panels, I have been unsuccessful in the installation of default FSX gauges, yet the same gauge by identification from FS9 seems to work fine.

For example, I like to have a timer in my panels. I have always used the Dreamfleet timer, but unfortunately, it is of FS98 origin and is not acceptable. I just disabled the clock in the FSD Navajo Panther panel, and substituted the timer that is in the FS9 Extra Default Panel. No problem. But if I try and put the timer from the FSX Extra in by the same procedure, it never shows up.

No biggy, but I am curious. Anybody know the solution to this, or why it is this way?

    Thanks:

Don't forget that most (all?) FSX aircraft now have their gauges in their respective panel folders, and not the main gauge folder. I imagine your Extra gauge issue is caused by their being no Extra gauge in the main gauge folder.

The gauges in FSX are in XML. They, in turn, are inside the '*.cab' file (that Paul points out) which can reside in the panel folder (no need to put in default Gauges folder, in other words. And FSX will find and use the files that are inside the Cab (cabinet).

Inside the Cab file you'll find the XML files, which will call the individual gauges (ie: bmp's). Here is the line for 300 clock: gauge10=Extra_XML!clock_&_oat, 70,559. The '!' instruct FSXs to look for 'clock_*' gauge inside the 'Extra_XML.cab' file. You have to include '!' if gauge is inside a cab file. Re-do the line in panel, COPY 'Extra_XML.cab' to your FS9 panel, and it should work.

    Thanks Paul and Chuck:

That was too simple a solution. I completely overlooked it.

Works like a champ (after I remembered to edit my gauge no.

    Thanks again:
