Default Winter in the Tropics

LAST EDITED ON Mar-15-02 AT 07:31AM (EDT)[p]While flying "real-time" through Malaysia and Thailand yesterday, I noticed a significant portion of the ground was various shades of brown. When I got on the ground, at one point, I was surprised to see denuded deciduous trees throughout the landscape.

I went into the world tab and changed the setting to summer, instead of winter, and voila... leaves and green grass (see pictures).

This would be great if I were flying in Norway, except for the palm trees, but the shots are from Phuket, Thailand, well within the tropics at 8°North Latitude.

Does anyone know if this is merely a glitch, or is it supposed to represent a dry season? It's not imperitive that I "fix" the problem, I just thought it seemed a bit odd. :-jumpy

    Peace, Tom

Thailand has a dry season? I'd say of any time of the year, late spring would be the time for brown grass. But they are in the tropics, and so seasonal changes should not be significant as far as plant life is concerned. However, since Microshaft was more interested in the flying aspects than seasonal foliage differences, I'll live with it.

Having grown up in Indonesia, about 180 miles south of the equator, I know that we had a definite wet season. As far as a "dry" season goes, since we were pretty much smack-dab in the middle of the jungle, it was more of a "not-so-wet" season.

I'm sure that Southern Thailand experiences similar seasonal variance. I have no problem living with it, the browning of the ground I like, the deciduous trees are just funny.
