    Default No spot view?

    Greetings: I think I am starting to get this FSX stuff. I still have a few minor issues that I hope to work out on my own. This one, however, is perplexing me: Most FS9 aircraft work in FSX, however some FS9 aircraft do not have a spot view in FSX. Is there a way to create one? One of the aircraft that I am talking about is the CO 757 "retro jet" Repaint by Joe DeGregorio(n14121v2.zip). Thanks!

    Providing you installed it right, FSX has TWO spot view for ALL AC's. One is 'Spot' and has the transition effect built in. The other is 'Locked Spot' and has no transition. You access spot view with F11. The 2D panel view is F10, and the VC ('3D') panel view is F9.

    You can do a search files (here) for 'FSX Commands'. These are complete (12 page) and 1 page list of Commands. You'll need em.

    I have the FSX command list. It has helped alot in the past. I tried hitting F11, but it does not show a spot view for some FlightSim 2004 aircraft in Flightsim 10, unfortunately. I am wondering if it has to do with differances between the FS9 and FSX aircraft.cfg?

    Ok. F11 is for 2D panel VIEW. Not spot VIEW. Spot VIEW is when camera is directly behind aircraft. It allows you to see the entire AC if you adjust the zoom (1.00) and then use 'Ctrl+ '-' (dash)' key and 'Ctrl+ '=' (equal) key to adjust the camera position (out/in) in realation to AC.

    Spot view is accessed by using the 'A' and 'S' key(s). FSX has these 'built-in'. You have 'Spot' and 'Locked Spot' view. Plus you can accesss the 'wing', 'nose', 'tail', etc CAMERA view (see below).

    When you get to the 'Locked Spot' view (see red text, upper right corner) you can press the 'A' key twice, and you will get a TOP-DOWN view. Press 'A' twice again, and you will be back to 'Loced Spot'.

    There is a set (different for different AC) of views, in Cfg. Those are called 'CameraDefinition'. Those sections 'define' CAMERA view, not default FSX views. Those you can add for the FS9 AC, using 'simular' FSX AC for best match. They won't be looking from same angle/distantance, so you would need to fine tune the 'XYZ', etc values to 'fit' your FS9 AC. There is even one where the camera is under the fusalage, looking at the main wheels. Like this:
    (CameraDefinition.x)
    Title = "Landing Gear_unique"
    Guid = {7EE9BB8F-6C5D-47da-BE77-CF271494EF40}
    Description = Centered-underside view of the landing gear
    Origin = Center
    SnapPbhAdjust = Swivel
    SnapPbhReturn = FALSE
    PanPbhAdjust = Swivel
    PanPbhReturn = FALSE
    Track = None
    ShowAxis = FALSE
    AllowZoom = TRUE
    InitialZoom = .85
    ShowWeather = Yes
    InitialXyz = 0.0, -1.2, -5
    InitialPbh = 7, 0, 0
    XyzAdjust = TRUE
    Category=Aircraft
    MomentumEffect= FALSE // TRUE
    ClipMode=Minimum
    I got it from 'Loyd' (he visits this forum). I did edit it a little, but it works good. You have to play with it a little to 'fit' your AC. These would be the 'Initial XXX' values. Keep plugging. Lots to learn.

    No problema. I remember (1999?) when I didn't know anything. But you can learn (if you want). Read everything. Touch / mess / adjust with everything! Don't be shy. Fire it in! You cam be the boss and in control! (Well, of the Sim, anyway-heehee).

    Hi Chuck,

    Is Spot View realistic? How many pilots do you know that can walk out behind their own plane during flight?

    If the pilot did this, who would be flying the plane?

    I know, your "real as life" stuff doesn't work out here.

    I wonder if it's OK to fly in Spot View AND use Auto Pilot AND minimize FS to the task bar?

    No Jim, it's not OK until:

    you add a top-down view and the nearest-tower view and a view of yourself from the AI that you're following... and turn over command to your co-pilot (AP)

    Then, and only then, is it OK to minimize to task bar!

    Hi Lloyd,

    I think it is ok too, but some think Spot view is real and walking away from FS during a flight is not real!! I just want to know what the difference is!!!

    I am a geek.................Back in high school I would skip parties on friday nights for the park at the SeaTac Airport. I don't know what my favorite is, just when the wheels touch down, or just when they lift off. FS graphics have become so "real" that, for me, its almost like the real thing. By the way, did I mention that I am a geek?
