  1. Default Activation Problems, IE 7 related, I think.

Looking around I could not find a post related to IE 7 so here goes.

I installed FSX as directed my MS on 11 Nov 2006. No troubles at all and activated the same day, also no troubles. Everything has been fine until two weeks ago.

I installed IE 7 over IE 6, with no difficulties and no messages, and within a day or so I received a message, at FSX loading, that there is an activation problem, please contact MS. MS on line help is worse than useless, and I have not been able to get them on the phone so far. I did receive a phone call from a twenty year old women in Chicago, asking how Microsoft's service was wih my recent problem. She did not know anything about FSX or computers or any of my e-mails, her words. She sounded so young that I asked her how old she was, hence her age.

I tried to re-install FSX using the repair option on DVD #1. Two error messages, #'s 1722 and 1603 which indicated a windows XP problem, and FSX would not re-install or fix itself.

Now I re-istalled windows XP, no troubles and when I was finished at least IE 7 was gone. FSX activation problem still the same. I tried to fix FSX again via DVD #1,same results as last time.

FSX runs fine for 30 minutes and then locks the computer, black screen, which requires a power switch reboot.

My computer is new, twin ATI 1950 cards, three monitors etc., etc.

Hi Robert: I installed FSX on 10/25/06. I installed IE7 on 11/21/06. My computer is two and a half years old. My problems started AFTER the IE7 install. There were NEVER any problems prior to IE7. I now get random BSODs. I keep a clean system. (SpyBot, Adaware, etc.) Last two days.. two BSODS. Maybe go two or three weeks without a BSOD.. then another. Don't know what to tell you.

I think maybe tomorrow, I'll try an uninstall of IE7. Some say you can do it and it will defer to IE6.. some say it's too integrated with Windows to get it clean. I don't know. I'm getting real frustrated with the BSODs though... even though I don't ..so far see any adverse affects from them. SPOFF

A few weeks ago, I received the message "IE7 updates are ready for installation. Would you like to install now?" Thanks to this forum, I already knew the answer was "no".
Nothing but problems with FS9 and other games. I'm glad I didn't install the update.Hope you get it worked out...

I might be 'out of line', but were you connected to the internet before you went and tried to do activation? I realize you may have corrupted files, with IE7, but that don't mean FSX can't be activated, which is why I ask.

The fact that you ran FSX for 30 min's and then it quit tells me it's 'ready' to activate. You should also go get updates for XP, as there may be a fix for this. Read up on problem. Google error message. Get all the updates, or you'll continue to have problems, not just with FSX, but with other programs too. Word Up! I know it's a drag, but it's vital. No way around it. Update often (tho, not necessarily 'automatic'-I do it manually-that way it don't barge in while I am flying and crash the sim). Lot's of leg work required to keep Mr Gates smiling. :-)

I installed FSX while using IE6 and then weeks later updated to IE7.

    No problems what so ever!
