RE: Top down view altitude, can't adjust?
They didn't MOVE the answers at all.
They are still pretty much all in the Learning Center.
You don't even have to start the sim to use it. But they did change SOME things; we're all going to just have to get used to them.
Your FSX install has a Uires folder; inside is the "lc01.htm" file. That's the Learning Center - just like in FS9. You can open in regular browser - don't need to open the sim to look things up. Most things you will probably find within a few minutes and probably much faster than posting basic questions in a forum, although most of us are happy to answer questions. This program DOES have a kinda steep learning curve, especially for those who are new to the game.
It's not real clear if you are saying you can't zoom or that this is your default zoom and you want to change it.
If the Zoom keys do not work, there is always the possibility that the key assignments are trashed. Do other functions seem to work ok?
If you go to options > setting > controls, you can look at the keyboard assignments and check that Zoom is still assigned to the +/- keys. If you haven't changed anything, then it won't hurt to do the "reset defaults" thingy. That did fix someone else's problem.
I didn't find anything in the LC about changing the default, but I did remember seeing it in the Cameras.cfg file.
If this "zoomed-out view" is your default view and that's what you're trying to change then you can open the cameras.cfg file in
Documents and Settings\<your-username>\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX folder
in CameraDefinition #6
Title = Top-Down
..
FIND THIS LINE:
InitialZoom = 32 (some number)
A value of 1 is the world view (no zoom). If your cfg file has a 1 here, that would explain why it defaults to this magnification.
Increasing numbers ZOOM in. So if you want to be high enough only to see a few miles/km, then replace the value with something between 32 and 16. My "32" shows a smallish GA airport about half the size of the screen. 128 or 256 would bring you down close. (128 value is good for taxiing around)
Hope this answers your need
