Thread: Quit whining about FSX...

  1. Default RE: Quit whining about FSX...

    Hey Adrian :-)

I think that filmworks did not mean to stifle FSX criticism. As we all remember here not so long ago most of the "criticism" was actually bashing, flaming and demonizing Microsoft and FSX (and indirectly, ACES) and it was done by people with a mission.

This still comes around once in a while but it goes away quicker than before.

I guess that the best example that FSX critique is not dead - but well, alive and kicking - is the bugs thread.

Moreover, to the best of my recollection, people who complain and request help looking to make the best of their system + FSX are not stifled - on the contrary. But when you see somebody coming in, bashing and kicking and doing that for "revenge" or whatever other reason, that's not critique - that's trash.

At least this is how I read filmworks's post - and that bit of FS4 humor did help get the tongue in cheek attitude. I surely remember FS4 - man, I still have it in its original box! Nevertheless, I do think that it was a bit too harsh and its timing was a bit off-topic since the forum has again, reverted to being a very nice place to be - with all the legit "whiners" genuinely looking for a solution and not for "revenge". After all, this is mainly a support forum as we all struggle to get the most of FSX :-)

    Best,

I'd like to mention, I have no complaints about FSX at all, I think that the Aces team did a great job. That has never been my complaint. I think it is a plus how heavy the graphics are. When I get FSX, I have the patience to wait until I get the performance I want out of it. That has never been my complaint, my only complaint is the activation programming. I heard a rumor which has about 1/2 percent reliability, that that situation might improve, but have about zero verification of that.

Regarding the "whiners" in general, I would like to know if this is a FORUM? Or is this an INFO-MERCIAL??

There are a lot of people here on these forums who take a lot of pride in their effort to discern or dispense important information about running MS FS's, which includes an open discussion of these subjects. If all discussion is required to put every product in a glowing light, then this would not be a forum, but an INFO-MERCIAL!

If critical viewpoints were edited out, and refused the freedom to express themselves freely, then recently what would have been the consequence?

Think about this for a minute, what would have been the consequence?

    >>Vista Retail would have only allowed FIVE activations, then you would have to purchase a new license! That is what would have happened if forum members had not been allowed to speak freely. And as I said, I heard some rumor about further improvement, but am uncertain about that.

I remember I used to criticize X-Plane in comparison to FS9, but no more, I'm definitely interested in X-Plane. I have Fly!2K, and want the two Fly! editions after Fly!2K. I'm hoping that MS will come around for the better. And eventually I'll be getting FSX. I have five flight sim stations running perfectly, have three more eventually on the way, and am supposed to look at another computer this week when I have time. I was discussing the price of aircraft today. I think I've been frustrated since childhood about getting enough flying, I never seem to get enough.

But to learn more on how to run these sims, I like to hear all viewpoints, not just viewpoints that describe products in glowing terms, and call everything "venerable". In one or two past hobbies I used to pursue, magazine writers would continually describe this or that product as "venerable", however as a scientist with a fairly good education, I just did not want to hear that word "venerable" again, so my enthusiasm took a steep dive. If this is an INFO-MERCIAL and not a FORUM with open discussion, then I should start receiving endorsement checks, and perhaps I'll get into the habit of also calling everything "venerable".

Cool Al, yeah it was meant tongue in cheek and it really was more addressing just the stuff you mentioned about the unwarranted MS/ACES bashing that had gone on...

In so far as the timing though, I'd been coming across new posts with whiners who were continually just complaining rather than taking the time to learn how to configure FSX properly and instead they were spitting the dummy saying FSX stinks and they are going back to FS9 etc etc etc...

No, that's not the point, true honest looks at FS and performance that are constructive are totally welcome, it's the "MSFT sucks. FSX sucks, I'm never going to fly it again, I wasted my money" type of posts that are the issue...

Is this an other tongue in cheek observation? You may have been better served to bite your tongue with the last tirade .That was a shotgun approach. Now your sharpened your aim to a target another class of simmers. Those who are usually short time posters here.Often young, and using the pop language of the day.Products of Rap music and the like.To our Ole ears they sound totally offensive.I recommend you don't hang around with bikers, for they are the best at this at any age.Yet these lads, they probably represent the future in this gaming world. They are the purchasers of any and all the new electronic products. They are not serous hobbyists. They have neither the wit or Patience for anything.Instant gratification seems to be the norm for them. They are creators of this generation.
They post here, and are immediately shunned by the general forum users with language like that..The Mods, will yank them if they brake the rules. So they bitch and moan, briefly ,and go away.We can look at their comments,or disregarded them.At some point you can sort the serous from the bomb throwers.Often done in a deliberate way as to create controversy, and laughs for them selves after readings to how we react.
Your comment directed to them ,many here agree with.Yet to again lump all into a category was not correct. So you in fact gave many to address you in the same manner we address the other incendiaries,One we ignore ,two we answer, often in a civil way, third it just make this place more entertaining. That in the end may be the goal for many.
Regarding you suggestions for improved FRs in FSX.
At those settings you have effectively eliminated the very features that all of us see as the best of this new Sim.The Draconian cuts you propose will reduce this Sim to something we all would be disappointed with.Your FSX must be a dull, waterless, action free dead world.Even with my use of this Sim ,I'm able to see the beautiful water textures, the traffic whizzing on the roads, the gorgeous sunsets in magnificent color. Why would I want to suppress or eliminate these features?Often going below the default settings. My measure is ,if I can fly in it its OK.
To tell you the truth ,If I were looking for comments or reviews before acquiring FSX,I would not, based on your recommendations get one.Your well intentioned comments may have turned off some new simmers. It even reinforces the debate as to FS9,See, they will say,my FS9 can do everything,no problem. This of course after much attending, and adding to.They may be correct.I use both.I like both very much.Yet in my FS9 world,I have every thing I would ever want. The Bill Lyons experience leads me to believe ..so whats new with the new Sim,that I don't alredy have? Yes we all do appreciate the ever improving Microsoft Sim world which we enjoy. We all also enjoy hearing the various comments. For there is something to learn from the least expected area's. Have A Good One! and Thanks! VIN

    FS:

I always try my best to be a gentleman, and most importantly to be constructive. If I should criticize MS for example, my end goal is that perhaps they will benefit by improving their business. MS is our local neighborhood software company, it goes without saying that nearly everyone here greatly respects and admires MS.

    Ciao Vin!

I'm glad that you are enjoying FSX, you are a gentleman and a scholar!

This is a pointless, rude, and offensive post. And, as if that weren't negative enough, the very first response we see is an endorsement by a moderator. An endorsement! As opposed to the direct challenge that the author deserved.

What better illustration of the reason that many of us "old timers" have all but lost interest in this site. Why do I bother to post this? Because this was once a great site that I looked forward to visiting every day. But it lost its way a few years ago, just as Microsoft did. It's a shame and I'd like to see them both get back on track. But it will never happen if the Fanboys get their way and silence all other voices.

And do you know what annoys me? Do You? Do you really want to know what annoys me?? Well, I'll tell you what annoys me!

People who write MS as M$! There. That what annoys me. I hate that - as if they are criticising MS for becoming the huge succesful company it has become and begrudge acknowledging this and think this trite little action of theirs is revolutionary. All their friend will admire them for making their stand.

And I don't even work for MS!

And if it wasn't for Microsoft then these same people wouldn't even be able to write M$, because they would be to darned busy inputting into DOS.

Thanks for listening.....they are going to wheel me back inside now before it gets too cold!

    Best regards and stay safe
