Thread: Making old gau files FSX compatible

    Ummmmm!

    Thanks for the reply Bill.

I have not been brave enough to tackle the SDK routine yet, but your post encourages me to dive in and see just how difficult or complex the venture may be.

If this makes possible the resurrection of some of my good old favorite FS9 panels, I will be eternally grateful.

Any additional advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Respectfully:
    RTH

No problem! I would suggest though that any further discussion on this topic might best be made in the "Panels and Gauges" forum... ;)

    However, the steps need are:

    1) If you have FSPS, use the "Edit" function to extract the bitmaps used in a gauge, and save to a new folder.

    2) After installing AND READING the Panels and Gauges SDK, use the ACE.EXE utility to "reassemble" the bitmaps for the new gauge and create the code needed for them.

Val, I work on FS development full time for a living. I'm not about to take any of my very limited free time to work on FS development! ;)

That free time would be better spent teaching others how to be "heros..."

    Hi, Bill

I'm trying to be a "hero".I've looked at "Panels and
Gauges" forum and did'nt find anything about this. So, I'll ask you:

    1- I did the first step, extracting the bpm from a sample gau;
2- Trying to use ACE.exe, I realized that the only option I have is "open xml document" or "any". I tried to open the bmp and got a syntax error.Could you help me?

    Regards,

    Val

Er, not to sound silly, but while there why didn't you simply ASK there? Please note that is "my" forum, after all! ;)

Nope.. The correct procedure is File/New Document. This will open a "new XML editing document" and allow you to create a new gauge.

I would highly suggest that you follow along with the SDK and build the "sample gauges" for which they provide all the data and resources needed. Once you built one or two, you should then be comfortable with the process. ;)

    Hi, Bill

Be a "hero" is not so easy.Anyway, thanks for the first inputs.I realized that there are a lot of things to learn, before we get our first panel gauge.Certainly, I'll be back to "your" forum too many times, before became a "hero".

    Regards,

    Val

    Hi All,

Maybe a small clarification on Bill's first reply.

If you accidentally read it as:
    - Extract the bitmaps
    - Run ACE.exe
    - Click a few buttons to *convert* the gauge code to XML.
    - And voila, you have your FSX gauge .....

    Sorry to disappoint you :-)
ACE.exe is NOT a gauge code convertor.
You still DO have to create the XML code yourself; with ACE.exe, Notepad or whatever tool you prefer.

Unless I'm very much mistaken :-)

    Cheers, Rob

Thanks, Rob. Actually what I did write was - I thought - quite clear, but I suppose the overly optimistic could have (mis)interpreted it as delineated above! ;)

Where the ACE.EXE tool "shines" is that it will at least guarantee a syntactically correct XML code. What it CANNOT DO of course is auto-correct faulty logic! :+
