You need a boot disk with a CDRom driver so that you can access
your CDrom drive.
thegetter!
You mean a floppy along with the CDROM... cuz i dont have the floppy.
You should be able to boot directly off the CD. Check out the settings in the bios and change the boot order to CD-ROM first, Floppy second, C:\ third.
You will want to change it back after installation lest you leave a bootable CD in the drive later down the track.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
John
This will certainly work - IF the PC recognises the CD drive ! If it does, fine, if not, you may need to get the PC to "see" the CD drive. I do this all the time at work when I have to completely re-format the PC.
If you need to do this I can copy the files from the "CD-creation" floppy that I use, zip them up, and e-mail them to you (ahmedmumeni that is !)
Best wishes,

LAST EDITED ON Oct-20-01 AT 07:27PM (EDT)[p]I tried playing around with it... no luck. It also says that... when I want to run a file for setup... it says that i dont have space on my hard drive. I have a 40 gig hrd drive from Quantum.
If you are wondering about system specs:
AMD 1.4 ghz
ECS K7S5A
40 gig hard drive 7200rpm
256mb ram PC2100
ASUS V7700 32mb video
56x cd-rom
Thanks
p.s. would you think the cd is faulty?
p.p.s I not sure about the letters of the drives
If you boot from a floppy and you haven't got a partition on your drive it will use C:\ as a ram drive and you will not be able to install on it.
You need then to run FDISK and make a partition and make it active / format it and off you go.
If you do have a C:\ drive then the floppy will use D:\ as a ram drive and your cd rom will become E:\ (temporarily for setup only)
In Millenium you can run setup from the root of the cd.
Eg: E:\setup.
If this doesnt work then change directory to win9x and then run setup.
Eg: E:\Win9x\setup.
Good luck....

When you say "don't have space" do you mean "no space at all" or "not ENOUGH space" ?
One question. Is this a new Hard Disk, or an existing one that used to have data on it, but which you have re-formatted ? A new disk should at least be low-level formatted, so you can get to the C-Prompt. If re-formatted, have you removed all the previous partitions ? If not, you may still have a 512Kb C: drive, which may not be large enough for the WinMe installation.
When I've run into this problem in the past, with Win95 and Win98 I've usually installed a basic version of Dos first, so as to have an OS to work from. Then, if necessary, I can install Partition Magic and expand the Primary Partition to some sensible size.
If you can boot to the C: prompt see what you get when you type
Dir
This should tell you how big the PC thinks it is !

Thank you for all your help... it is greatly appreciated! Anyways... it says that it doesn't have "enough" space. Also, it says that the setup cannot be run in a DOS environment.
Thanks A Million!
