Default INABILITY TO START SOME DEFAULT AIRCRAFT

Has anyone else encounted difficulty starting some default aircraft. The Maule is a terrific plane but unless I set up at active runway with engines running I find it impossible to start. Other planes also have the problem including the smaller Cessnas.

Any advice please as I would like to use them more but I like to begin with a cold start. I follow the stated proceedures but to no avail so I must be missing something.

    Regards

    Graeme

In general for piston powered aircraft, for "cold start" you must:

    1. set your parking brake
    2. master swtich on
    3. prop (if eqipped) full forward
    4. mixture (rich)
    5. throttle forward about 1/4 in
    6. fuel cutoff (if equipped) on
    7. fuel selector switch- depending on plane-BOTH/ALL, etc
    8. fuel boost/pump-if equipped-ON
    9. starter (if seperate) ON
10 Magnetos-both (most GA aircraft now mag/starters are the same swith).
hold it to start that should be it-fuel boost can go off

    or, hit CTRL-E, hehe

Graeme: Starting the Maule by turning the KEY doesn't work for me either. It DID work a couple of times when the Sim was first installed but hasn't worked since. "Some" adjustment that I made to check boxes or sliders may have disabled the key start in this plane. SO: I follow the procedures as normal...Then CTRL+E. It works every time.

The key start in the Beaver works normally. SPOFF

For some reason I can't get any aircraft to start cold. When I go to the particular aircraft, it's running. Perhaps I've forgotten how, since I was burned out and stopped FS for a couple of months. Please, how do I assure a cold start?

Hi BOB: I was able to take the Beaver to Friday Harbor and taxi up to the floating docks to a place alongside the dock of MY choosing, Stop, then Shut Down everything. EXIT, give a name to it, and SAVE as Default. Now when I fire up FSX, and select Free Flight, the Beaver shows up first. If I decide to stay with the Beaver, I can stick with the original flight, OR change the time, day, whatever..the Beaver comes up at Friday Harbor, at the dock, COLD and DARK.

If I choose a different plane, instead of the Beaver..say the Maule: AND a different place, AND a different time: When I click: FLY NOW: The New Plane I selected will show up at the new place I chose right now: COLD and DARK. Once you get it in..COLD and DARK..After that, any plane you select, including JETS, will show up at the place you have selected...COLD and DARK. Getting it in as COLD and DARK may not work the first time. Keep trying until it works.

After that, It will be up to you to figure out how to get the plane started. SPOFF

Graeme: I checked my Cessna 172 and my Extra 300 to see if they "Key Start": They do. ONLY the Maule has the problem so far. Cheers: SPOFF
