Thread: FSX VIDEO

  1. Default FSX VIDEO

Anyone know how to make the SAVE and REPLAY video thing work in FSX...it sure doesnt work in mine! Went through all the learning center stuff with no joy. Says to record and hit ESC...no save or replay video window comes up. Says to open the OPTIONS MENU...there ain't no OPTIONS MENU to be found in the program. What am I missing or doing wrong here?

    Regards and thanks,

It worked for me. I select to record, then when I wanted to stop recording, I clicked ESC key and the save box popped up.

just wanted to add that if you are looking for a way to capture in game video, I would suggest FRAPS... FSX video capture doesn't really work the way FRAPS does for making videos.

Cheers Ben! Sure glad it's working for you. I tried again 7 or 8 times...every time I hit the ESC key, the only thing I get is the end flight box...I do know the recording is working as the files do wind up in the MY VIDEOS folder.

Thanks Ben, I'll check into it. Just pisses me off a bit that another function of this thing isn't working as it should.

    Nigel,
That (My Videos) is the wrong folder. The videos should be saved to 'Flight Simulator X' folder, under My Documents, etc.

When you find folder, just COPY (for safety) them over, restart FSX and try to load. Should work.

And if you get FRAPS (very good AVI recorder) don't hit (FSX) ESC to stop recording, hit the key you picked (in FRAPS settings menu) as 'Start' key, as the same key is used to 'Stop' recording (ie: toggle). Recorder programs record whatever is on the monitor screen, not just flt sim, and can include cursor (ie: mouse) movement(s).

Then when you want to edit AVI, use Windows Movie Maker, to reduce size to FRACTION of original size (ie: 100 Mb to 1 Mb).

Cheers there Chuck and thanks for the info! When I record a video in FSX, it automatically gets saved in MY DOCUMENTS/VIDEOS/FSX FILES...that's where they wind up (WindowsXP Pro). I can edit them from there with my other software...just couldn't figure out why ESC wouldn't bring up anything but END FLIGHT. In playing around with the thing and continually finding that ESC doesn't bring up anything but the END FLIGHT window, I did find that the Alt key does open the options menu I've been looking for to do what ESC alone wouldn't...menu shows up on top of the screen with Alt.

Well now, isn't that interesting... considering that the so-called "Record Video" of FSX creates an xxx.FSR file, which is not any sort of real "video" file at all. Rather, it is a set of data points that FSX can use to "recreate" a "recorded" flight in the sim...

An xxx.FSR file is not "playble" outside the sim by any program...

Ya, I noticed that too. You can't really use the recorded video to make a film or anything. It just sets points for the simulator. Too bad.

Well, tried it once again with the same results...hit the key to start recording and hit the key to stop recording...went to MY DOCUMENTS/MY VIDEOS/FLIGHT SIMULATOR X files and there it was...a Windows Media File...clicked on it and it played in WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER...no audio, but the video played (large file size).
