No images when running FSX - Black screen

I just loaded FSX and when I boot it up I can see all of the option screens and setup panels, but when I go to fly I see nothing. Just a black screen.

Dell 4600 desktop
Intel P4 2.6 Ghz
3GB PC3200 ram
Brand new BFG GeForce 7600 GS AGP w/512MB (downloaded and installed latest drivers)
Windows XP Professional w/SP@ and fully updated

Hello Doug:

Does this occur in spot view as well as cockpit view? If your spot view is okay, Go to 2D cockpit view and close the main panel screen.
Is the scenery visible? If it is, add this line exactly to the FSX config file under the DISPLAY section.

Panelastexture=0

I experienced this with my 2.4 Pentium, ATI Radeon 9800 and after about a week of searching, found this fix listed in - I believe the early days of FS9, or it might have been FS2000. Anyway, it worked like a charm. My panels instantly became visible. I had already applied numerous tweaks, and with this change, FSX works like a dream for me, even in the largest airports, with all of WoAI packages installed and several other AI all running at 100%, and running real weather. It took me about a month to get to this state, but having got here, I must admit FSX is significantly nicer than FS9.

When I hooked up a second monitor, actually my 27" hd LCD via a DVI cable, I got a black screen on both displays when running FSX. I don't know why it happened. I just disabled one monitor and got FSX working again after that. Anyone know what to do for this issue?

Thank you for the reply. If I hit F10 I do get a 2D panel but still no exterior view. Just a black screen. I added your line to the display config under Nvidia cards and it was no help. Any other suggestions?

Click Start / Run / then type in " dxdiag " / then run all tests.


Did You Un-install Your Old Drivers first? - If not, go to the top of Hardware Forum, and follow the directions, supplied by Noell, for a 'Correct procedure of Driver Installation.

I did this and everything appears normal. I'm really at a loss as the computer is running fine, has a decent video card, lots of ram, and runs everything except FS10. It ran FS9 without problem. I even downloaded a few video test programs and they all run with high frame rates.

But I get no panels in FS unless I hit F10 for 2D panels, and I never get anything but a black screen. This is even true when picking planes. The field where the plane would normally show is just black.

I have same experience.
Mine is 7600GS and newest driver also.
It occured when I started up FSX first time after installation.
In that situation I couldn't close FSX nor shut down PC because nothing in screen.
I reseted PC and tried some more times but same result.
Then I did many things, hited many keys clicked many points... I don't remember well.
Then suddenly the FSX was showed up!
I don't remember well what I did after that also.
Now I have no trouble anyway.
Maybe it can't be a solution for you, just a experience, sorry.
