    Default Raimundo

I loaded Raimundo's scenery for the west coast the other day and WOW! My rates jumped right up to my locked 20 over northern California. It was running around 10. Really smoothed things out. By the way, my CPU is an AMD 64 3000+, and the card is a Radeon 9600. I also made sure my driver was up to adte, and that I had Directx 9.0c. Not exactly a hot rod by the newer boxes. I'm giving Raimundo a real attaboy and I hope he gets some more great stuff out soon. It's really wonderful to have guys like him who give freely of their talents to our hobby.

OK, I just tried a flight out of Rio to look at how the South America scenery is. Worked just as well as the west coast set. Frames up where you get a nice flight, even on my "antigue". Oh, my 9600 is the 256 meg version.

    Where did you find this?

    Good day

if you search under my name taburet - here at flightsim - you find there lots of mesh ive done - and also the fsx mesh -

currently uploaded for fsx is :

central america - caribbean - south america

west coast 10 m - - - Few words about this mesh - there are a few files that need to be fixed as i see few spikes here and there - and ill do this in the next few days - and again upload the replacement files here at flightsim.

    mexico 38 m -

france 38 - on this france 38 - ive to replace 2 files - france38_5.bgl and france38_1.bgl - cause are not alligned where they should be - and give some problems - therefore a version 3 of the scenery must be uploaded - to finally sort out this complex scenery - but it offer a far better resolution to the whole of france than srtm - therefore is a step forward compare to srtm - and that is why ive insisted to make this scenery work - and we are nearly there to have all nicely done and working as it should.

    alps 19 m

    - - ill upload here at flightsim in the next few days: infacts ill start upload very shortly for fsx - to complete world srtm mesh :

    europe
    africa
    west asia
    east asia
    australia
    new zealand and ilands

the srtm packages - work very well - i tested quite alot and spend hours fly over it - and only notice a few points in himalayas - that need to be retouched - but other than that - fine !

so - - keep tuned at flightsim - if you like to cover your fsx with new mesh - for the world.

OK...just added Africa. My slowpoke system gave me 20 fps out of Buckahanon Liberia and 17 out of Jomo Kenyatta in Nairobi Kenya. Am I satisfied? You betcha! Nice going, Raimondo!

I have always enjoyed Rays work in FS9 but have been away for some time.

Do I put those mesh files into the add on scenery folder in FSX and thats it? I am interested in the Caribbean area mostly but will do some of the USA. Just takes a long time to download with free membership :-)

    Thanks

    Bill

That's all I had to do...I put them in area fo;ders (Africa, South America, etc.) in the add on scenery folder. Then I opened up the scenery library, clicked OK, and away I went. I would suggest a defrag in the near future to cut down seek times. I have Ultimate Defrag, and use the folders/files option. Good stuff!

    Ray,

I got your three Africa mesh files and have thoroughly enjoyed the new look. I lived near Mt. Kenya for 12 years and the default mesh in Kenya was atrocious. The mountain looked like a big smooth hill when in real life it is very rugged.

To install I put the BGL files in the add-on scenery folder and then went into the scenery library and clicked OK.

I have good frame rates. Only thing I noticed was some faint elevation lines running through the scenery. Perhaps this is where the mesh tiles join each other?

Thanks for your contribution to the FS community.

I saw on a website that MSX is set to a 38m mesh too? Why are these better than M$ meshes? And are these just as good as the ones like Abacus is releasing, beside the fact that they are free?

Also, are these fallter or more pronounce? And whats the diff between the Fance mesh and the Europe? I fly alot of Europe but not always France? Can they overlap?

    Hi Ben;
    no probs you welcome.

faint lines ?? what exactly do you mean ?

i fly quite alot on the srtm - and in very few areas i noticed some artifacts - like for example where two dem join there is a carved line - i see 3 of those - but just circostricted in the himalayas -

if there is another around the mt kenya - just post the exact coordinates and ill have a look - and when i get an opportunity ill fix it.

    Hi Cujo;

I saw on a website that MSX is set to a 38m mesh too? Why are these better than M$ meshes? And are these just as good as the ones like Abacus is releasing, beside the fact that they are free?

38 m only in the usa - europe is srtm based 76 m.

the difference between the europe addon and the default is that the europe addon uses De Ferranti data - to fill some of the critical areas of the alps -

france is different becouse it uses higher res dem than srtm therefore produce a more detailed mesh.

you can overlap - just make sure that france is above the europe addon in scenery library -

the usa files are 10 m mesh - therefore are better than default - they cover the west coast - coverage map is included - a couple of file need to be corrected cause they show some spikes - other than that is a great freeware mesh - and will be even better when the fixed files are out.
