    Default FSX: I tried!!

Hello: Well, I tried! I reviewed several of the threads on the forum plus Mr. Herds review articles, and tried several of the suggestions in those regarding FSX. None of these seemed to help with FSX at least for me!! I could not get anything better than 10.1 FPS, plus little or no improvement with how the sim worked no matter what "tweaks" I tried. I tried installing the new Nvidia driver and no help with FSX, and that rendered my FS9 un-useable!! So I deleted FSX for now, and I'll wait and see how expensive it will be to up-grade to Vista, and a DirectX-10 graphics card when they come out and see what I will want to do. FS9 may not be quite as good as FSX but I can't see the use of fighting the issue when, apparently, my system (AMD 64 3400+, 1.5G RAM, Nvidia Gforce 7600 512MB RAM) doesn't seem to have the horses to run the sim properly. Any comments would be welcome, but for now I'll stay with FS9. Thanks.... Dan Green

    Hi Dan

I'm new on here, but as I have been saying in my opinion (and I realize I might feel different than most of you), when dealing with MSFS you need to decide what's more important "Frame rates" or gorgeous detail, becuase it seems that, no matter the system (consumer acessible anyway) you really can't have both. I have never had a problem with "frame rates" MSFS has always flown fine for me even FSX. What i'm lacking right now, on my 5 year old system, is the graphics detail. Aircraft exteriors and most scenery, as well as the VC's look awful. But because I'm more concerned with being able to have a smooth take off roll, fly and land smoothly, that's the trade off I make. What I would try is, install FSX, and try it out at the settings it makes for you; I think what happens is a lot of people run setup, then put the sliders where they want before they try it out. With that CPU and that late model NVIDIA card, I would think your graphics detail would be better than what I get--I have a Geoforce2 with 64mb!

Hello: I hear what you're saying. Even if I try for low details the sim just still does not run very good for me. Also at that setting the lack of detail is so bad it's terrible to me. Also the FPS does not increase very much at all. At the most I would get 13.1 and then it would be all over the place 3.2, 6.5, 7.8, 11.4, etc. etc. With FS9 even if I'm in Chicago I get 25 to 30 FPS. Now it could be that I'm doing something wrong but I'm not sure what that could be!! So I'll stick with FS9 and see what happens down the road as new things get released! Thanks very much for trying to help! Regards.... Dan G.

In my opinion, with the rigs you mention you have, FSX should run rather nicely at considerable high settings...So maybe the problem is elsewhere....

As an example, my rig is pretty similar (duocore 2.8, 2gigs ram, X1900XT) and run the sim at 1280x960x32, with all terrain settings to max. Exceptions are:
-Autogen, set to Dense and tweaked with Matt´s files.
    -Weather, set to 80miles.
    -No bloom
-Road traffic and ferries at 50%.
    -Water to low 2.
Most of the time I get 20-35 fps, but in biggest cities, where it lowers to low 10s...That means that 99% of the time, flying is smooth, no stutters, no slideshow.

Here is a sample: the Maule from VC in Alaska

Hey Dan! Great to see you around amigo! :D

I agree with Esteban, with your system, you should be able to fly FSX, of course all of us gotta adjust sliders and apply a couple of tweaks, but this new sim is fantastic!!..anyways, i will email you and comment about my own setup, tweaks etc..lets reinstall that thing! LOL

Greets to Lucy my friend, see you :-)

Well Hello Amigo!! What a nice surprise!! Well, tomorrow we'll be leaving for Florida for about a week or so. Hope you're sitting down! We're getting a smaller house out there (Ft. Myers) and should be there by mid Jan. So I don't know how much I'll be doing with FS over the next few weeks. I look forward to your e-mail and see maybe if I can have some success! Take care..... Hello: You bring up an interesting thought about the trouble being elsewhere. So where might you think this would be? I'd be very interested in what you may think!! Can you let me know your thoughts please?? Thanks..... Dan Green
