Thread: WORKAROUND: Solution for install problems (horrible solution but it works)

  1. Default WORKAROUND: Solution for install problems (horrible solution but it works)

    Ok.

I'm currently in the process of trying to fix this HORRIBLE FSX install issue in regard to CAB missing, Error 1334 and Error 1335. The MS FSX screwed this one big time.

My solution has been seen on seeral sites but I myself, also had issues. So, copy all of the FSX content from Disk 1 an Disk 2 into a folder on your desktop and run setup.

My issue was that I was STILL getting error. So...I copied the particular file from the CD that the program told me it couldn't open and clicked Retry and it installed. Oh yeah, I had to copy like 11 cabs from the CD's until it finally installed.

With this said, I do not like this one bit so I'm waiting for my 72 hour call from MS.

    Wish me luck!

PS: I cannot believe my 3.2 ghz, 6800 Ultra and 2G of RAM pc cannot run FSX w/out blurries, even with settings at LOW!

Your computer should run FSX, all else being equal. The fact that you had problems installing the program means you have issues well beyond trying to run FSX. I don't know what else to advise without digging into your system, but I would start with a reformat and fresh reinstall of Win XP, then go from there. Jack

    Hi,

Removing the InstallShield Update Service worked for me.

I experianced the same problems with different cab.

    Look at this site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258496/en-us

I used the clean boot (No 2) and that solved my problems during install.

    FSX is distributed on DVD.
    Mine installed fine.

Installing software is difficult at the best of times.
As stated in a previous post, without being at your computer, it's hard to tell what goes wrong during installation.

    Hi,

That method might have worked for me. I search for the 1334 error and found that a lot of people were getting the same error when trying to install Half Life 2 or Quick Books. The Quick Books site said it was because the demo or an older version had been loaded and recommended deleting some files. The HL2 people recommended the InstallShield method. I went with the InstallShield method and it worked first time except when I tried to install the SDK. In order to get the SDK installed I had to reinstall the InstallShield Update Service again.

    Hi,

In another forum people were saying it had a lot to do with the brand DVD you had. This is the first software I have ever installed that used a DVD so I hope it's not a DVD brand issue for me.
