Thread: FSX Scenery - disappointing?

  1. Default RE: FSX Scenery - disappointing?

Lago has a VERY GOOD Venice scenery for FS2004 (lots of custom buildings etc.) I am not sure that it is still compatible with FSX but chances that it is are very good - call them and ask.

When you see it, you'll understand why MS cannot match this kind of quality worldwide for ALL the 'well known places'.

Buy Lago's Venice (after checking w/ them) and never look back.

Its common knowledge that MS cant be 100% accurate all the time around the world. I mean go fly around Manhattan, last time i checked there arent any houses in midtown. But as far as flying thru countryside i truly get a realistic feeling. I dunno just my $0.02

Hmm. In general I find the FSX scenery to be excellent - however, as has been stated, some areas are not 100% accurate. Mostly areas outside of the US, I think.

"not 100% accurate is a joke"...

Go and look around in the FSX World ... you can take many parts of the USA or Canada. Go to northern Italy or to Norway....

All these places seem to be located in the middle of the Sahara desert. Large areas in the world do not look at all the way they are in reality and FS9 was not good, but still much better in this respect.

I think the landclasses in many parts of the world are absolutely horrible.

I do not understand why some people praise the "visuals" of FSX. For me the correct landclasses a major part of the visuals (and not some elephants somewhere in Africa).

    My two cents.....

I was a bit disappointed with the city of New York as well.

But, at least they have the bridges back :)

Jacksonville was a disappoinment as well, but like someone else mentioned, (paraphrasing), that's what addons are for. Can't expect MS to have EVERY city that we like to fly out of looking perfect.

I was saddended to see that the Sunshine Skyway Bridge did not make it :(

    Oh well :)

I haven't flown outside of the US yet (except for across the Channel during an IFR mission). However, I must say that the moment of realization that the scenery in FSX is simply so much more breathtaking was flying the Mount Denali mission in the Maule. Absolutely stunning.

Yes, that mission is great. Love it.

Man o Man I can't believe people are complaing because a certain building or clump of dirt is not in the right spot. The purpose of a flight simulator is two fold.

#1 Simulate the operation of flying aircraft as closely as possible and make it enjoyable for both novice and experienced flight buffs.

And #2.... Give an honest representation of where things exist in the real world in relation to their surroundings.

ANYONE who freaks out because some little lake or building is not in the exact ( real life ) spot, is just asking to be let down.

    Just an opinion.

    Default FSX Scenery - disappointing?

Well I am not going to knock the game generally, as overall I have had a pretty good experience with it.

However, after enjoying quite a few missions and pottering about a few other places - and enjoying it, I decided to visit a couple of places recommended in the guide. Venice was one of my choices - having been there - and what a disappointment it is!

Ok - I know these places are just representations, but after the guide had mentioned it specifically as a place to visit I found it to be nothing like Venice - where are the gondolas for a start - where is St Marks square, etc.etc.

Has anyone else found this with any other well known places?
