Thread: Help New person here with FSX

  1. Default Help New person here with FSX

    I am new to the flightsimworld. I have a p4 3ghz
    dell demension
    radeon ddr 128meg videocard agp
    512 meg of ram

I was told by dell tech that I can not get any higher than a 128 meg videocard for my system.. Is this true? I have a intel canterwood 8753 chipset motherboard.

My fsx is at a crawl is there anyway around this problem? What if I just put a 256 meg video agp in place of the the current video card....what will happen...or is there a external video card that can be used to suffice. sorry but I am not very literate when it comes to this stuff...

also what if I increase may ram to 1.5 gig by itself , if there is no work around the video issue, would that help the game?

    Thank you for any input.

If your Dimension is a desktop I don't see why you cant fit a new AGP based card with 256 or if you can find/afford one a 512Mb.

I would certainly up your RAM to at least 1Gb or preferably 2Gb if you have the right slots. Crucial have a system checker that will advise whats feasible for your system.

You might also repost this in the hardware section-there are some real experts over there.

Dell probably don't sell higher spec videocards for it, that's why you got that answer.
Not knowing the motherboard layout it's impossible to tell whether you can install another card (there are machines that have an onboard videocard and no slots to put in another one).

Make sure of the change you want to make will work!

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 or 8500??, 3.06 hyperthread, 768 MB of ram, and I put in a GeForce 6200 AGP 256MB card. I use Nvidia driver #8.4.2.1. After experimenting with several different drivers, I found this one on work the best on my HP 21" wide screen. I don't have FSX yet, but have tweaked the demo to run pretty smooth with this setup, without sacrificing much. FS9 runs smooth as can be with this setup. So I think you can buy a better video card than what is in it now.
