Can't you just save the senerio that you want after setting it up?

the problem is i can't start a new free flight, because it doesnt have a save to start from, the only save is during a mission.

I not sure if this will help. In fs9 I pressed this ; and this brought up saving the flight. Make a file name and say okay. If that doesn't work in fs10 then I don't know. I would like to save free flights as well so any info if this doesn't work let us know.

hmmm, let me try to explain myself more clearly.
the "default flight" save file, was the one i had saved my free flight too, that i wanted to boot up everytime i started flight sim. I later started flying missions, and finnally got to one where i wanted to save it part way through, without even thinking i saved the mission to "default flight" and now wherever i load free flight, or boot up the game, the flight that loads for free flight, is my mission save. There is no way to start a free flight that doesnt have the mission compass or anything, i hope this explains it more....

You can't SAVE a "default flight"...

Look in your FSX\Flights\other folder and find the two files:

    DEFAULT_enu.FLT
    DEFAULT_enu.WX

Right click on each one and select Copy
Paste the copy into the folder.

    Delete the two existing files:

    FLTSIM.FLT
    FLTSIM.WX

Rename your two copied files to these filenames:

    FLTSIM.FLT
    FLTSIM.WX

Notice in that folder that there are SEVEN sets of "DEFAULT_xxx" flight/weather files. The _xxx indicates the language version they are for.
