Thread: TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH=400? What is this

    Default TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH=400? What is this

WOW - what does this do? TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH=400 instead of TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH=80

Despite all other tweaks giving me a couple more FPS, this one corrected my biggest issue, so it seems so far. No more fuzzies right in front of me and no more texture loading as I fly, also cut down on the micro-stutters. What exactly does this line in the FSX.CFG do? Saw the post about changing it, but no one actually said what it is for that I could find.

    do you mean TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT?

    Yes, sorry it is Texture_Bandwidth_Mult=400

i tried setting it to 400 and it did improve the blurries but increased the stutters, i think i need to play around with the value.

Im sure combines with the other tweaks I have put it, it has an effect on something somewhere...somehow. I did set the FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=.60 instead of .33 as suggested. As I understand this tells the system how long the processor can have to process graphics, so I tried higher and seemed to have better results. I'm sure all the tweaks are system dependant, some work better on some machines than others. I still would like to know what the Texture_Bandwidth_Mult does.

Don't know if this still applies in FSX but found the following on another forum.

    "What is the TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT parameter

A This setting controls the rate at which textures get transferred
    to the video hardware.

Higher numbers will result in the textures getting to the
hardware faster and avoiding "popping" textures when
switching view but may increase stutters and require more
physical memory on the video card (and some more, not
recommended for video card with less than 128Mb).

Increasing this setting with a 64Mb video card will cause
stutters as the greater memory requirement will use the main
system memory via the AGP port - or the slower PCI port - or
even worse if the system memory is insufficient it will use the
virtual memory on the hard drive with access to the swap file
    and lotsa stutters."
