Default Hardware/Software/XP?

LAST EDITED ON Mar-12-02 AT 09:26AM (EDT)[p]My computer blew up yesterday, so I went out to buy a new one. I got a 1.8gig Pentium 4 with 256megs DDR and a 128Meg GeForce 4 with Soundblaster Live. It runs Windows XP.
Anyway, to my question: I have been running Win98 on a far slower system and FS2K2 has been running great; what kind of performance can I expect when my new 'puter arrives? Does anyone know how 2K2 performs with XP or GeForce 4?

SB Live! and XP = bad combination.

Make sure you have the updated drivers from MS for the SB card - the originals were known to have a memory leak.

Thanks,
That's very helpful info. I'm glad to hear that XP works well. I'm a little nervous about giving up 98SE.

Windows XP does a great job of fs2002! As for your video card, well i have a Nvida GEforce 2 and it runs fs2002 superbly!! so i imagine that the GEforce 4 will be a good deal better. I have and athlon 1800+ and 256mb ram which is similar to your new comp so i can almost garuntee your comp will run fs2002 like a dream! :)

the real performance is..

Windows xp will solve any conflicts on its own but be sure to
dowload all the windows updates especially the driver updates
directly from the MS windows update site BEFORE you install
FS2

Doncarlos,

Thanks so much for that bit of information, I just purchased the following system and guess what, it has Windows XP :-) Yes, I know my graphics card isn't the great of choice, but that's all I could afford at the time. My limit was $1000 and I got away with spending $956. I am also apprecative to read about the problems with the SB Live soundcard (again, it was another $40 I didn't have)

Dell Dimension 4400 Series Pentium® 4 Processor at 2.0 GHz

Memory: 256MB DDR SDRAM

Video Card: 64MB NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 4X AGP Graphics Card TV-Out

Hard Drive: 80GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive

Sound Card: SB Live! Digital Sound Card

CD Drive: 16x/10x/40x CD-RW Drive

Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition

It also comes with the other standard stuff, keyboard, mouse, 17" monitor, and speakers. My old system was a PII 400MHz, 256MB RAM, 20GB HD, 8MB VIDEO.

Regards,
Billy
