    Default FSX Cloud Is Transparent

It appears the FS9 fault has followed through to FSX.

Flying over 8/8 Cloud the ground is still visible. Can it get anymore unrealistic?

This was a major issue with the release of FS9. FS2002 didn't have the problem. I was certainly hopeful that FSX would fix this.

For such a high quality product overall this is a major blemish especially for those of us that are real world pilots that practice Instrument Approaches.

I am hopeful this is only a bug in the demo! Please.

I certainly hope they fix it.

One tip though: check the cloud type. If it's Cirrus, even at 8 Oktas you can still see the ground... you shouldn't see it if you have stratus/cumulus selected. There again, I have never tried 2004, so...

You still see the ground with Stratus and Cumulus selected. The transparency does reduce if a number of layers are added but this is not useful when setting a cloud base and hoping to "pop out" and see the runway. So much for practising a missed approach from the minima as you always see the runway even when in the cloud layer.

    IMO, the overcast is fixed.

I'm still trying to figure out why it works on some people's machines, but not on others.

As you can see from my attachments I can replicate the shots you have taken, but on a top down view I see the water and tarrain. The cloud layer in use is 8/8 Cumulus Base 500' and top 9000' Aircraft is at 10000'. When descending and in cockpit view instead of having zero vis until 500' I can see the ground all through the descent. It just depends on the angle looking through the cloud. I would be interested to know if this happens to you or anyone else also.

    Hi BJ,

Increase the cloud density in your weather settings.

With Cloud Density set to 100% and visibility set to 1 mile, You won't see a thing until just seconds before touch down .... IFR Only !

    Randy,

Thanks for your response. I do have cloud visibilty set to 100%. Reducing vis is only a work around. You would get the same effect with no clouds and vis set to 1 mile. Try setting 1 mile vis in a layer up to 5000ft and then fly to see 6000ft. Can you see the ground then? Is your cloud transparent with a high vis set? I would like to be able to set a low cloud base whilst still maintaining an 8km vis.

    Cheers,

    BJ
