Thread: Sea surface

It is a real miss that the waves (the state of the sea surface) do not reflect the wind speed even in this release of the MSFS. It wouldn't necessarily need to be a huge work, just a few more sets of textures. Otherwise the weather effects seem to be OK, especially I liked the turbulence, there is something new to it.

    Of course, why not ???

But do you want to see the framerate fall at 2 fps ?

LOL! If it truly were as simple as you think, they would have done it!

I hope you remain cracked forever.
I have reasonable knowledge of programming, particularly in atmospheric modeling, therefore ...
Time of day triggers texture changes, doesn´t it? Why not weather too?

That was somewhat rude. Did you intend it to be?

Lets keep it civil guys !

I personally think Mark had a valid request. I was finding that I was getting a horrific effect of the waves (like 'crushed ice') when water set to Low x2-Max x2. However if one substitutes the OceanHeight.bmp with an alternative (from the many done for FS9), the 'crushed ice' effect of the waves is gone, although the reflections remain.

I suspect that it might be feasible to have different OceanHeight.bmp for the differing wind levels - say for calm, breezy, windy and stormy - and for FSX to dynamically load the OceanHeight.bmp depending on the wind speed?

What say the developers on this subject?

    Regards,
    Stuart

And separate .bmp files for different wind directions?

I would assume (and I really mean assume) that it will this will be done up just fine when DX10 is incorporated. In a video on www.gamespot.com a dev was talking about how DX10 shaders could add wave height to water with whitecaps, spray and all in 3d. It would seem to me that if this is truely a feature MS is using as a selling point coupled with FSX being the "benchmark" for vista, they would get the sea states/waves as accurate as possible. Just my opinion, but only time will tell.
