Is it safe to say that with the upcoming technology programs like pmdg planes and weather programs like Active sky and AI traffic (ultimate traffic) can still be updated and will most probably still work in FSX?
Thanks!

I'd like to know too...I have sunk a sh*tload of money into payware add-ons...both scenery and planes, and I sure hate to think that none of this stuff will be compatible with FS10. Anyone know? So, anyone in the know, please give us guys some re-assurance to calm our nerves. There are some add-ons such as Carenado's planes that are as real as it gets, so I can't see how fs10 could improve on add-ons like this.At the very least, if these fs2004 add-ons need a patch or update to work in fs10, I would hope that you third party developers would provide them for free or at least for a small nominal fee. Just my humble opinion.
Sobaka ;-)
well this is just my guess. I think it will be good news and bad news. Your airplanes will work, but they start looking old and dated comparing to the new airplanes that will be created for FSX. The new airplanes that the developers will create will look a lot better due to use of reflection features and bump mapping. I don't even think the screenies do justice in what the difference will be, but take a look at the following screen shot of the cessna(and mind you this is a default MS airplane, so you guess yourself what developers could do!!!):
It is important to remember, that except for the CES demo, the Q&A and the 40 to 50 screenshots released on FSX, we have very little concrete information regarding FSX. Reading the blogs of some of the development crew and the occasional posts in forums like this by "taildragger" or "pixelpoke" we have heard that backward compatibility is a desire for the total package but when the development team comes up with something that makes the product much better than before, backward compatibility may take a back seat. This could be in flight dynamics, environment or visual display features.
It is going to be difficult to sit patiently until the entire FSX package has better definition and Microsoft shares that with the flight sim community.
I just Really need my ArrestorCables and AerialFoundry's F-18 to work...The rest will be cake...he he
I..like everyone else am anxious to get a concrete answer to this question...I have allot of money invested on add on stuff for FS9 too...I'm still working on it even today...I will probably have FS9 just the way I want it about the same time FSX is released...lol
I'm really impressed with the info/screenshots avaliable on FSX...It is beautiful...The aircraft are super!! (would like to see some panels)...
I'm most concerned about backward compatability of Aircraft and Panels...Judging from the screenshots they got the scenery covered.. :9
I won't mind keeping FS9 around if the stuff won't work in FSX...But then again...That is exactly what I said about FS2002...he he...
Have Fun!!

Read the intoduction to the existing 'Compiling Scenery with BGLCOMP' SDK. This gives a clear warning about non XML-based scenery, ie that built with BGL opcodes or the BGLC compiler: "...we cannot guarantee their support in future releases."
